Have they said that 1PW 8 on iOS won't be native?

There wasn't much we were able to say about iOS before, but it is available in Early Access now:

1Password 8 for iOS & iPadOS Beta 📱

And from our blog post: it is "written primarily with SwiftUI and Rust." With that said, let's please move the discussion about 1Password 8 for iOS over to our iOS Early Access category so that we can keep the discussion in this thread focused on the desktop apps. 👍️
