Duplicate Login Pop-ups: Unknown Window Appearing Alongside 1Password (Thorium/Win11/Windows Hello)

Message:
Hi,
I’m experiencing an issue with 1Password on my setup and would appreciate your help.

Whenever I open a login window in my browser, two small pop-up windows appear for selecting a login:

  • Window 1: This is an unknown window; I have no idea which program or extension it comes from.
  • Window 2: This is the expected 1Password login selection window.

My setup:

  • Browser: Thorium (Chromium-based)
  • OS: Windows 11
  • 1Password: Using Windows Hello for unlocking
  • Extensions: Only the official 1Password extension is installed for password management (no other password managers)
  • Browser password management: The "Offer to save passwords and passkeys" setting in Thorium/Chrome is disabled. Instead, it says "1Password – Password Manager is controlling this setting," which I assume is correct.

I’ve attached a screenshot for reference—window 1 is the unknown pop-up, window 2 is the correct 1Password window.

My question:
Does anyone know what could be causing the extra pop-up window, or how I can identify and disable it? Any troubleshooting steps would be appreciated.

Thank you!

  • Hello vorayn! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! That looks to be coming from the built-in password manager in your browser. While Thorium isn't a supported browser (so it's possible that you're running into a bug that we're not aware of) you should be able to turn that off by following these steps:

Use the instructions for Chrome (although Thorium might have some differences) and don't skip the steps that have you migrate your passwords from the built-in password manager to 1Password and then delete them from the built-in password manager.

Let me know if that does't work.

      Hey Dave!

Thank you! You were right, I skipped out on the "Delete Browsing Data" part.
Just did that part and deleted all the password data from Thorium/Chrome and now only the 1Password auto-fill pops up!

Thank you for helping me out, I must have skipped reading through that part of the help page!

      Regards
