2 years agoExperiment #4 – New interface in 1Password.com’s vault view
Hi Folks!
Today we’re bringing you a beta version of a major update to the vault item view interface on 1Password.com. Our goal is to align the design with the main desktop application as well as improve our ability to introduce new features consistently across all of our platforms.
Unlike previous experimental features in labs, you are not required to manually enable this experiment, and it will not appear under the “Labs” tab in the 1Password apps. As this is an updated vault item view of our web interface, you can access it directly via this link.
At this time, the new interface provides a read-only version, which means it is limited in functionality compared to the current interface. We wanted to start testing as early as possible to identify any potential issues well in advance of a full rollout. Full functionality that aligns with the current vault item view interface will be gradually introduced over the next couple of months as we continue testing and developing.
The primary questions I'm trying to answer are:
1. Do you prefer this new interface over the old one?
2. Do you see value in us rolling out this new interface of the vault item view to all 1Password users?
3. Are you experiencing any performance issues?
4. How often do you use the vault item view in 1Password.com?
We are eager to hear what you think about this new web interface. Please share your feedback and thoughts below in the thread!

Feb 15
- Fixed part of the issue firebeyer mentioned with custom item categories. Right now all custom categories will be grouped together under "Others", and we'll be fully supporting active custom categories soon.
- Group and sort categories in the item list filter menu to match the desktop apps.
Feb 6
- Began supporting localization for the 12 languages already supported in the rest of the web app and other apps. There are some tasks remaining there.
- Maintain the last item list sort order throughout the app and across page reload.
- Show an alert popup when encountering unexpected errors, to hopefully avoid just showing a blank screen like norysang reported.
- Squashed some minor bugs.

In general the new view is much more navigable and speedier on desktop than the original one. I'd use it full-time, except it's read-only.
I would prefer it if, in the desktop view, that the left nav bar included the list of vaults instead of needing to use the drop down. But that's pretty minor.

The primary questions I'm trying to answer are:
1. Do you prefer this new interface over the old one?yes - like it mirroring the console view.
- Do you see value in us rolling out this new interface of the vault view to all 1Password users?
yes
- Are you experiencing any performance issues? Keep in mind this is a read-only version at this time.
nope
- How often do you use the vault view in 1Password.com?
About once a week.

How do I add a new element? In the previous dashboard, I could see a clear + (plus) button to add a new element. I cannot see that in this experiment.

Hey, Evon,
Yes, this was the early access interface. If I was told somehow that the new interface was read-only, it was certainly not prominent. Maybe you could make that a little more prominent. Another way to handle this would be to go ahead and put the big + button on the early access interface where it will be in the final version, and then when someone clicks it, tell them at that point that you can't add new logins with the early access interface, it's read-only. That would prevent people from searching around for it and getting frustrated that they can't find it.

This is great - much much more intuitive. I use light mode, and I love the slack-style left bar. I mostly only use the online vault to add or edit items, so I'll kick the tyres more when you enable add and edit. In the meantime, great work! There's some seriously good thought gone into the UX redesign, so please pass on my compliments to the team.

Hello radcapitalist, thank you for reaching out.
May I ask if you are referring to the early access interface in 1Password.com’s vault view? If so, the new UI provides a read-only version. It is an early-access view with limited functionality compared to the current interface.
I look forward to hearing back.

The new design is still not responsive, so it's still unusable on mobile.

When I search for part of the name of the item, I get a long list. For example, suppose I have items:
A.B.C
D.B.C
Where each letter stands for a keyword of some sort - e.g. A could be "Able".
In the old interface, if I searched for "B.C" I would get just these two matches - great result!
In the new interface, if I searched for "B.C", I get the first item that matches in the entire vault - not very selective! I do get a drop down list with the 2 items to choose from, and a "Show all matching items" option to display just the above two. Also, I don't see any way to Delete an item; but that could be coming with the Edit feature. Please make Delete more intuitive, but leave the confirmation step to avoid inadvertent deletes.

I recently came across a unique interface design where the "new" button not exists. I kindly suggest reconsidering its placement to prominent position, potentially saving time for myself and fellow users.

The new interface is better than the older web interface, I don't use the current web interface often but will if it looks and act like the desktop ver.
