As it stands, doing any of the following with the app will "force" a sync, if one is possible: locking and unlocking, adding a new item, or editing an existing item. For the future we are looking at ways to make it more obvious when the app's connection to the server has been interrupted, and offering guidance on how to resolve that based on the cause.
I hope that helps!

I wished it help, but no, that stuff is not forcing the mac desktop app to sync. I'm really hating the fact that I probably have to reboot to get this to happen, since I'm in the middle of an online account setup and have a lot more stuff to do there.
I can't believe there's not just a FORCE SYNC button somewhere in the application settings. How hard would that be?- 1P_Dave5 months ago

Thanks for reaching out. If you're not seeing new items and edits made on other devices appear in the 1Password for Mac desktop app almost immediately then something is going wrong. So that the team and I can investigate further, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:
Send a diagnostics report (Mac)
Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

It's too late now, I did reboot about 2 hours later and the problem disappeared. But there really should be a way to force the sync or at least see in the settings why the app is failing to sync.
And the fun part here is that the changes included a new web site added on the exact same machine via the browser plugin, which was syncing just fine. It's not possible, however, to edit 1P entries within that plugin; it jumps out to the desktop app to do editing, where the lack of sync broke the ability to edit the item. I had to log in through the browser interface to be able to make those changes and have them work in the account setup that I was doing in the browser.
