4 years agoHas "Search Everywhere" changed in Version 8?
Previously, when I performed a search, the initial results would be from the more common data fields. But if you clicked on "Search Everywhere," this included the password field as well. Is the password field now excluded from "everywhere'?

Hi @bwofford:
Thanks for your thoughtful feedback. As MerryBit mentioned, we're actively making some improvements to search (available now in the nightly release) which would allow you to search for "529" and find your item named "Project529". You're more than welcome to switch to the nightly release channel, or wait a bit for it to be available in the beta or production channel. Here's another example of substring search in the nightly:
As for field reordering, while I can't share any specifics just yet, I'm hopeful that it will be one of the next things we tackle.

I saw multiple posts from staffers yesterday that substring search is imminent. It's in the current nightly build, poised for release as soon as it's stable.
See the post from Jack in this thread:

I'm also pretty sure they're working on the ability to rearrange fields though I have only seen staffers hint to that functionality being reintroduced, not actively confirming it.

Since updating my reply yesterday, I spent a brief bit of time studying Agilebits. I suppose in a bittersweet sort of way, I'm inclined to offer a "thank you" for a learning opportunity. Prior to this study period, I would have had no inclination to appreciate the complexity of basing decisions on business versus technology. I remain appreciative of Agilebits for its open culture such as Dave Teare admitting in a post the gamble in early decisions involving 1P8.
Many large companies would prohibit staffers like Michael Fey from sharing blogs with the public, explaining much of the background for how certain tooling choices were made. I have no understanding of Electron or Rust nor do I have any desire to learn more. What I do want, however, is a return to the 1Password that is so much at the core of my everyday workflow. For me, 1Password does far more than merely manage login passwords; it is my repository for anything of a confidential nature!
As such, it is insane that I cannot reliably search for something as I've always done in the past. I appreciate the whole unicode challenge but how in the world could anyone decide it's okay to release the product while stripping away such a basic function of search? Or, similarly, the ability to arrange the fields within a record as we've done for many past versions? As I mentioned earlier, my trust in 1Password is waning. At least now I have a better understanding of just how extensive the change to 1P8 was, and why it has the clunky feel that it does.
I find it both ironic and distressing that of all the platforms that you now support, the users you would willingly throw under the bus are MacOS, which is your origins. It seems almost criminal to use tools that consume more CPU resources than necessary for delivering a supposedly graceful and natural user experience. I think the gamble Teare mentioned is much greater than choosing one tool over another. You can count me among the customers whose loyalty cannot be considered infinite. In spite of this, I feel confident my data is secure and robust, primarily because I can only assume the media would be all over any breaches or compromises.

Search is definitely underperforming in Version 8 as compared with previous versions. For example, one of my records is titled "Project529." When I perform a search on the string 529, this record is not included! How can that be? I must say again, the trust I once had in 1Password is rapidly evaporating! It's looking more and more like the "rewrite" of 1Password has been performed by a different core team of developers.

Hi @bwofford:
If you search for a password, and then choose "Show all matching items", the password field will be searched as well.
Let me know how you get on with that!
