How do we get better fills on android?

I am a lastpass user that is trying out 1Password because I got access to it via EERO+. On paper, this looks like an upgrade. It handles authenticator TOTP, it has a shared vault instead of having to send and accept individual sharing password requests, it has better security, the desktop app works with browser extensions etc.

But the major problem is, it will not fill things on android as well as lastpass. It rarely if ever fills a username which means all logins that are 2 step - fill in username, click next, fill in password - I have to go to the app and search to find the username. And when it comes to the password field, it's less aggressive than lastpass.

Maybe this is a design choice but as much as 1password seems better (and free with eero+ to boot) it's a deal breaker for me. I have to balance convenience with my security and especially so for my non techie wife, I can't make her work flow any harder and to share passwords we have to use the same password manager -  and it just makes sense to do so, if I become incapacitated I need her to know how to get into mine (and yes, having had a heart attack and a cardiac arrest and bit the dust for 3 minutes before being revived, I worry about this).

So I would like to ask is there any way to make 1password more aggressive at filling in boxes? I'd rather have it ask me for things it shouldn't (like lastpass) than the reverse. If some people don't like it, make it configurable thru settings.

I would like to switch to your product but the way it works now, I can't.

  • Hi Dfeinberg,

I'm sorry that your autofill experience on Android hasn't gone expected so far. To confirm, have you followed the steps in the following article to ensure autofill is properly set up on your device?

Use 1Password to save logins and sign in to apps and websites on your Android device

If you use Chrome or Brave on your device, make sure you also follow the steps under where it says "If you use Chrome..." in the "Set up Autofill" section.

If things still aren't working, could you confirm what type of Android device you're using, as well as what version of Android?

Yeah I have followed those steps. I had fill in working it's just works poorly. I was using it on my Samsung Galaxy S25, I upgraded to the s26 so I don't know exactly what android version but it was a recent one.

I'm sure others have comained about this and that it's not a new problem just for me.

      Also I use Firefox

I'm sorry for the delayed reply. Would you mind sharing the website (and browser) or app where you've recently run into a filling issue? I can take a look to see if I can reproduce the issue on my end and investigate further.
