    Hello sethleonard! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! Creating a recovery plan is indeed a very important part of making sure that you'll always be able to access your 1Password account, even if you lose all of your devices. We have some guides here that go in-depth on how to create a plan:

In general, you'll want to make sure that you have other family organizers, or users with the ability to help you recover your account, in case of an emergency. You'll also want to download and print out your Emergency Kit and create a recovery code.

I saved my secret key somewhere I can get it no matter what, and I tried logging in with that and my password, but was required to use a verification code; this would not be possible to get without a device.

It sounds like you've turned on two-factor authentication for your 1Password account. To allow yourself to access your account even if you lose your authenticator app you can add additional factors (like another device with an authenticator app or a security key) and store those with your Emergency Kit. Or you can print the QR code containing the TOTP secret (which is displayed when you turn on two-factor authentication) and store it with your Emergency Kit so that you can scan that code using an authenticator app and generate your one-time password.

    I hope that helps.
