I keep all third party applications in a subdirectory of /Applications for organization. The only exceptions are some questionable ones like Zoom, which I keep in ~/Applications, so it doesn't need root access.

Thanks for the reply. To clarify: this behaviour is by design and part of 1Password's security and integration model. 1Password requires installation in
/Applicationsto protect your data and to provide the functionality that users expect. Since 1Password stores the most important data in our lives, and has many moving pieces with its integration with the browser extension, its requirements are different from other apps that you may have installed on your Mac.That being said, I'm happy to pass along your request to the team. Can you tell me a little more about why you'd prefer to install 1Password in another location so that the team can better understand the need for such functionality?

Understood - this is behavior that did not exist before. When will this be corrected?

On the Mac, 1Password must be installed in
/Applications. If 1Password was to be installed in another location some of the integration and security features we rely upon, specifically our use of sandboxing and verifying code signatures, won't work.-Dave

I think my point is not coming across. The behavior you mentioned was not always the case with 1Password, and 1Password is now the only third-party application I have in /Applications (I have dozens in a different folder), so you have a bug that does not allow your software to follow convention. Please correct.

Hey cobaltjacket,
That's right, in order for 1Password in your browser to connect with your 1Password desktop app they both need to be installed in your /Applications folder.

1P_David - thoughts?

I think I figured it out. I have the 1Password apps in a different directory from /Applications. This used to work fine for 1Password (I had it running this way for years), and does not cause an issue with any of my other apps, but now it seems to matter. Moving it to the /Applications folder "corrects" the issue. Why? I should be able to place applications anywhere I like, other than privileged system areas.

I am seeing this same behavior (Mac), and my OS, client, browser, and plugin versions are all up to date. The behavior is the same across browsers.
