This is all well and good.. and I understand.. but i just switched from LASTPASS and NEVER encountered this issue with them... so...

Welcome to the community! All password managers on the iPhone and iPad use iOS Autofill and rely on the app that they're filling into to have set an associated domain so that the app can be matched to your saved login in that password manager. Which app are you having trouble with? It's possible that they updated the app since you last used it in the past.
