The following issues I have had recurring when using the safari browser extention with the (new) Profiles enabled. This issue appears when running MacOS 13 and 14 Sonoma - Safari 1Password browser extention works (unlocks) and fills in feilds on second, third or any additional profile that is setup and a window is opened. From the "Default" profile the extension icon generally remains 'locked' or the window opens and the extension shows unlocked and shows passwords, however autofill, copy/paste action fail to respond. A Clear History will reset 1Password - however when that is completed each profile is reset and the associated 1Password preferences are also reset When more than one Profile window is open Activity Monitor has a 1Password Safari Web Extension process running for each profile that has significant resource usage. 1Password Version: 1Password for Mac 8.10.16 (81016047) Extension Version: 2.15.1 21500107, on STABLE channel OS Version: 13.6 (22G120) Browser: Safari Version 17.0 (18616.1.27.111.22, 18616)

First let me say I am a long time user of 1Password and I love this product - at least I did until Apple released profiles for Safari. Since then my frustration has been mounting. I am sorry but scrolling through this thread, all I am hearing is: 1) Thank you for posting on this forum 2) Sorry for the inconvenience 3) Please send us your logs over and over again. Not one post provides any indication that 1Password understands the issue, has developed a workaround or is working on a fix. If you keep providing canned responses and don't offer any advice on how to fix things, people will just stop telling you about their issues and start looking for alternatives. My typical use case is to have multiple Private windows open, and the 1Password extension is unlocked and working in all of them. But occasionally I need to open a window for a specific profile. Sometimes 1Password would not unlock for that new profile window, or any other windows I try to open for that particular profile. However, if I open a window for a different profile, it might unlock for that window. I emailed the requested information to mailto:support+forum@1password.com, but have not received a response with a Support ID after more than 10 hours.

I use Safari Profiles heavily. 1password is virtually useless to me as a password manager at the moment with this issue. Im seeing all sorts of weird behaviours as others have described above.

I, too, have experienced this issue and it is annoying, only that because I have found a workaround until Agile Bits can figure out their own native solution (maybe the below will be of help in that effort). Here is what I do (unfortunately you have to do it in each Profile; this is not a universal fix): I encounter the locked icon in a website's user/pw fields Open Safari's settings (command+,) Go to the Extensions section of the pane Deselect 1Password for Safari Reselect it Close the prefs pane Press Refresh (ctrl+r). Maybe even refresh it again ☺️ Now, click into the password field on the website. For me, the locked icon is now unlocked, and it works as expected The odd thing is that the 1P toolbar icon isn't always unlocked by this process, but the in-field icon is. When I click that toolbar icon, it wants me to enter my 1P password. So I usually don't, because the field icons are unlocked. I find that using the presented user/password unlocks the toolbar icon. Pretty nutty, Agile Bitsters; hope you can figure this out. Hope this helps some of you.

Other password managers don't do any better. With Bitwarden, you have to log in again for each profile, and it still makes the same mistake. The extension only links correctly in the second tab.

I'm just going to leave a "me too" here. I've been living with this issue for ages; this is the first time I've investigated whether it's actually been reported.

I have two (main) Safari profiles: Personal and Work. I auto-switch to Work profile based on the Work focus. (System Settings → Focus → Work → Focus Filters)

When I'm at work (like right now), 1Password is unlocked in a Safari window with the Work profile enabled. But in the window right next door that's in Personal profile, 1Password is locked.

I can fill passwords in a Personal window, but I constantly get prompted to unlock 1Password.

How is it that 2 years later there is still not a resolution for this issue? Universal auto-fill doesn't always work. Toggling the extension on and off doesn't always work. Why is this issue so difficult to fix when Safari profiles have existed for so long? I really don't understand how anyone at Agilebits can think it's acceptable to just keep posting workarounds rather than fixing the actual root issue.

Universal Autofill is a good workaround for passwords, but not for websites using Passkeys. With more websites using Passkeys I'm hitting this issue more frequently too.

I'm sorry for missing your ping. I don't have any updates to share at the moment but I did want to offer another suggestion for the time being, have you tried using Universal AutoFill rather than the Safari extension to fill your logins? Follow these steps:

Make sure that the 1Password for Mac desktop app is installed: Get the 1Password apps

Setup Universal Autofill: Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac

Use the Command-Backslash keyboard shortcut to fill logins in any of your Safari profiles.

Let me know if that provides you with a better workaround while we wait for a fix. 🙂

With regret, because this is a right pain, I have just cancelled my 1password account, because there is still no sign of any fix for safari profiles, and the broken extension slows me down too much.
