Keep 1password in the background (without dock or menu bar icon)

Hi,

It appears that if I uncheck "keep 1password in menu bar" and then close main window, 1password shuts down and chrome extension loses connection. This means next time I try to use it, it has to open 1password and that takes time. Also quick fill doesn't work until 1password loads.

I like to keep minimal amount of icons and 1password is definitely not needed for me. Is there a setting to keep 1password going without having either the dock icon or the menu bar icon present?

Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out! In order for 1Password to run in the background the menu bar icon has to be turned on. This is to ensure that you know when 1Password is running in the background and whether it is locked or unlocked so that you don't have a situation where 1Password is running unlocked in the background without you knowing about it.

I know that there are some third-party apps that allow you to hide menu bar icons, using one of those might give you the functionality that you're looking for.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I hope you can change this, I've got Dash and QuickSilver (and a few other apps I've created) which run fine in the background (no visible dock or menu item)... if I don't keep the full 1Password app window open, then my Autofill shortcut "cmd + \" does not work... it just makes 1Password feel really buggy (most of the time I go to use 1Password, it just does not work, and I need to re-launch it... I did try using 1Password in the menu bar, but it seems to break the autofill shortcut entirely).

I'll pass along your feedback to the team, thank you for sharing.

Can you tell me a little more about this? Are you saying that if you turn on "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" then Command-Backslash doesn't work anymore?

Yes, and I tried this several times in the past (while I'd rather not have another icon in the menu bar, I was willing to put up with it if it fixed the issue of 1Password not working when I need to login).

But I think I've just found a partial solution, if I tick the box to keep 1Password in the menu bar, then change the shortcut to something else, close, re-open, and change the shortcut back to Command-Backslash, it seems to work some of the time (which is better than not working at all)... but it's still not reliable, for example it does not work when I've focused a Google Chrome window with this website loaded (where I have 1 login saved, and I'm currently logged in), likewise it does not work on example.com (where I don't have a login saved), it does work for some sites I tested where I have 1 or more logins, and doesn't work on some random websites where I don't have a login (or, that seems to be the rough pattern).
