Is there a way to merge duplicate entries in 1Password?

Hello robertoborges! 👋
Thank you for the question! 1Password 8 includes a duplicate finder through Watchtower, try these steps:
- Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
- Click on Watchtower in the sidebar.
- Click on Show Items under Items with duplicates.
The duplicates remover tool will only look for items that are exactly the same and that are located in the same vault. You can read more here: Use Watchtower to find account details you need to changeI hope that helps.

Hello All,
I'm struggling with duplicate issues as well. I made the mistake of importing from both my Windows laptop and iPhone, and it has become a complete mess. The duplicate feature is not helpful, and 1Password doesn't recognise slight URL variations. On top of that, the import process doesn't organise accounts and passwords by domain, accounts without passwords, or accounts without usernames, and even prompts for passwords within files. Now, the tool is a chaotic mess that I'm trying to sort out. Life without 1Password was so much simpler, and after subscribing to this tool, it's only made things harder as I attempt to fix the mess I accidentally created.

I'm sorry that you ran into issues after importing your items. Where were your passwords stored before you migrated them to 1Password and are they still saved there? It might be best to start over by deleting the items in 1Password and then just re-importing your passwords from one of your devices so that you avoid the duplicates.
Are you able to tell me how you imported your items? Was it using a CSV file or another option? You can find our import guide here: Move your data from other applications to 1Password

Hello Dave,
Thank you for your response.
I’ve exported and imported the data via .csv as suggested. Unfortunately, at no point during the process does the portal provide any warning about potential duplicate password issues. Given that many users operate across multiple platforms—Edge, Safari, Chrome, and Apple Passwords—it’s surprising that this challenge hasn’t been more proactively addressed. It’s a real-world scenario that I believe warrants a thoughtful solution.
From what I’ve gathered, this isn’t a newly identified issue. It’s been discussed for well over a year, and some users suggest it’s been around for more than three. It’s concerning that the development team hasn’t prioritized it, especially considering the reputation and expectations surrounding 1Password. The fact that this thread is still active after such a long time speaks volumes.
On machines where the web plugin is required, the login experience becomes noticeably more difficult. Overall, I had hoped for a more seamless and intelligent solution from 1Password. With all due respect, I’ve invested over a month working through this and have made significant progress—it would be disheartening to have to start over.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm sorry that you ended up with multiple similar items, if you import multiple CSV files from different sources then 1Password will indeed import every item in each CSV file as new items. There is a chance to review the items that will be imported before the import actually occurs for each CSV file so that you can check to see if those items were imported previously:
If you were previously using a password manager that synced your items across all of your devices then you should only need to import one CSV file from one device. I know that this doesn't help your current situation but I wanted to share in case it helps someone else who stumbles onto this thread in the future. That being said, I can definitely see how it would be helpful to have 1Password better guide users through the import process and even potentially offer a tool to automatically flag and identify similar items that may not be exact duplicates to make the migration process easier. I've filed your feedback with our product team.
Thanks for sticking with us through a rocky start and let me know if you have any other questions.
