Opera : browser extension always ask 1Password password
Hi,
I've been using successfully the 1Password Chrome extension with the Opera browser (based on the same engine as Chrome) on Windows for several months (since the ability to declare trusted browser was introduced). Unfortunately, every time I need to complete a user/password, I'm asked to unlock 1Password, even if it is already unlocked according to the desktop application, and to unlock it I have to enter the password (using Windows Hello is not proposed). This is unexpected because it works well if I use the same extension with Chrome: I'm asked to unlock 1Password only if the desktop app would do it and if I have to unlock it, I can use Windows Hello. I am not fully certain but I've the feeling it was working as expected at the beginning when the possibility to use the Chrome extension with Opera was introduced but the problem has been lasting for several months now...
The Chrome extension version is 8.12.10.36 (both in Opera and Chrome) and my Opera version is 129.0.5823.65. I'm also using the extension on Firefox which works as expected.
Thanks in advance for your help. Best regards,
Michel
Hello mijou! 👋
I'm sorry that 1Password isn't working in Opera Browser. While Opera isn't officially supported, and it sounds like 1Password is working as expected in supported browsers like Chrome and Firefox, I'll help as much as possible.
First, can you remove and then re-add Opera to the 1Password for Windows desktop app: Connect additional browsers to the 1Password app
Then, restart your Windows PC. If that still doesn't work then, when you right-click on 1Password in Opera and click Settings, do you see a green dot in the browser settings page? Or a different coloured dot and an error message?

Hi,
FYI, the problem happened again. The suggested fix also worked again, even without restarting Windows (I only restared Opera. Not sure who is the culprit, 1Password or Opera? May it be something caused by Opera updated (linked to the way Opera is registered as trusted browser in 1Password)?

Hi Dave,
It took time to test your proposed solution, I just did it. From what I can see, removing and re-adding Opera as a trusted browser fixed the problem.
Thanks.

Hey!
Its working - if you haven't tried on Windows + Opera!
I just wanted to check on older community posts (+1 year) to see if there is an update to 1Password/Opera/Windows and before I just tried it out via Settings.
Either way - unlock 1Password in app or browser plugin - it unlocks either way.Latest versions of 1Password, Opera, Plugin, Windows.
- Open 1Password app
- Go to Settings > Browser > Connect to additional browser > klick "Add Browser". A File-Window will open. Now navigate to installation Path of Opera or see 3.
- Locate your Install Path of Opera
- Right Click on Opera Logo and click "Properties"
- Copy the path of General/Location or Shortcut/Target
- Insert it in the File-Window and klick "Open"
- Opera should now be added into the list. Try to Lock/Unlock 1Password via App or Browser Extension. It will/should lock/unlock either way.
I might have missed this update feature before. Finally Opera + 1Password works again as I was using it +15 years :-)
Thanks 1Password developers for this feature finally added to 1Password on Windows :-)
