Re: Safari Extension won't fill if too many tabs open

intermittent problem where the 1Password extension will not autofill.  You clink the icon in the web page, nothing happens...

Hey, just adding some support to this as I also find this issue cropping up. Along with the following problems that I have previous reported to 1Password, however there's no real solution provided:

  • The 1Password Safari Extension (1PSE) lock/unlock status does not keep up to date with the 1Password App's (1PA) lock/unlock status.
    • This can range from a delay of sometimes up to 30 seconds, to flat out refusing to sync/update the lock/unlock status on the 1PSE altogether.
  • Clicking on the 1PSE to unlock it will display the normal macOS biometric unlock flow, and the 1PA will successfully update however the 1PSE refuses to unlock.
  • 1PSE stuck on a "loading" screen after unlocking.

From what I have read, some of this is to do with the way the 1PSE talks to 1PA and the APIs not being as robust as 1Password would like (which I accept) - but this really does beg the question...why force us to use the extension and not give us the option of using the native macOS Autofill flow at least as a backup.

My own attempts to resolve the above issues normally require either a restart of the browser (as you say very inconvenient) or opening a new window (this is less reliable in fixing the issue in my experience). These issues first started becoming more prevalent when the Safari browsing profiles were first introduced - ever since then it is like 1Password has been unable to get to the bottom of the root cause.

I have tried using 1Password without the browsing profiles and these issues still crop up from time to time but are less frequent. 99.5% of my browsing is done in the one profile and I do not switch profiles often, but it is still frustrating.

  • Hello gussic! 👋

I'm sorry that you're also running into issues with 1Password for Safari, I've split your post into a new thread so that we don't take away focus from the specific issues that the other community member is reporting in their thread.

just adding some support to this as I also find this issue cropping up.

Can you tell me how many tabs you have to have open in order to reproduce the issue where clicking on the 1Password icon on a page won't show suggestions or allow you to autofill? And on what websites have you seen this issue? Can you still currently reproduce the issue?

The 1Password Safari Extension (1PSE) lock/unlock status does not keep up to date with the 1Password App's (1PA) lock/unlock status.

This is a known issue. 1Password for Safari is still sharing the same lock state as the 1Password for Mac desktop app but the icon graphic doesn't update quickly enough. Our developers are looking into this.

Clicking on the 1PSE to unlock it will display the normal macOS biometric unlock flow, and the 1PA will successfully update however the 1PSE refuses to unlock.

1PSE stuck on a "loading" screen after unlocking.

When this issue occurs next, before you workaround the issue, please right-click on the 1Password icon in Safari's toolbar and click Settings. Then, let me know if you see a green dot in the browser settings page or a different coloured dot and an error message?

Regarding macOS AutoFill, please see my reply to you here
