several issues after upgrading to V8 — is it possible to downgrade back to V7?
I've been using 1Password for over 10 years but after upgrading yesterday to Version 8 on my machine I've run into several issues.
- The first issue is the shortcut that my hands are used to go longer works; when I try to enter it in preferences it will not except it. I know there are not any conflicts on my machine because I've been using that keyboard shortcut to invoke one password for 10 years and now suddenly doesn't work anymore.
- The next issue is that when I invoke one password it is not involved in the browser without clicking the extension icon in the browser. I don't see an option to invoke in the browser itself. Without clicking the extension icon.
- Now there is a bar that is invoked in the middle of the screen; previously I can edit an item from the quick search area but now it seems like I have to open 1Password app itself search for the item in order to edit it.
Is it possible to edit an item on the fly? Is it possible to get my old original keyboard shortcut to be excepted in preferences?
If not, is it possible to downgrade diversion seven?
1Password Version: 8.7.0

yep, looking for alternatives as v8 wont be usable any time soon. V7 downgrade isnt an option. AB has made their choice as you guys say.
That will mean a lot of work to migrate to another provider.
However v8 doesnt even let you export all your data as plain text. so its literally a lock-in.
Sadly its gonna mean lots of wasted time to move the entries to other provider.
Unless they can import from proprietary 1PUX file, but support is gonna be limited i guess because not all password managers use same structure.Last migration was from LastPass to 1PW as LP did the same mistake, making their user interface unusable, slow and migrated as well to electron :)
Now imagine all customers to which we recommended 1PW over the years.
All will have to migrate as they have the same issues. - devanandaOccasional Contributor
well said. after 10+ years it will be excruciating to migrate to another platform. I would never use Last Pass (that's what I always told myself) — and I always felt grateful for finding 1Password in it's early days. But this release makes me feel like I got hit by a truck and now I'm in crutches.

It doesn't matter why they changed it all, at least not to me. That they made such significant, and bad, decisions is the main concern.
Right now I fully expect v7 to have a VERY limited shelf life. At some point soon, they'll tell me that I must switch to v8.
Well, I know what v8 is and isn't. It isn't for me, not at all. If I have to change, it won't be to v8. I am off to plan the next password keeping arrangement in my life.
I would prefer not to change, but AB is clearly forcing it. If I'm wrong, if AB has committed to supporting v7 ongoing, let me know. Of course, I know that's not true. I have a bug report in for which the answer was, "v7 is not being developed, so you're wasting your time reporting bugs like this--if you want this behavior to work, v8 is your answer". No, something else will be my answer.
AB made their choices. I have to make my choices for myself. Tolerating what v8 has become is not a choice I'm making.

i was an absolute fan of 1Password and v8 clearly destroyed that. I showed it to clients who we want to start using password managers and the v8 demo was embarrassingly impractical for business usage i must say. caused quite a bit of pushback and might have to recommend bitwarden or other products instead just to get them to use password managers. having a password manager is a must nowadays. we are at a point where usability matters more than fancy features and shiny user interface. by making v8 unusable they literally made it harder for non-tech business owners to push password manager usage in their businesses.

Cant see any shift in management but they got new series C funding in Jan 2022 from lots of famous firms and celebrities. however releasing an unusable product is shocking in light of that, hope it doesnt tank the company. they just alienated lots of existing customers.
the new funds come from Accel, Backbone Angels, Bob Iger, George Kurtz, ICONIQ Growth, Jeff Weiner, Justin Timberlake, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Mary Barra, Pharrell Williams, Rita Wilson, Robert Downey Jr., Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson, Tiger Global Management, and Trevor Noah.

Glad to know I'm not the only one here. I am biggest fan of 1Password. The newsletters and the release notes are even amazing. But this is disappointing. My guess is there must have been a shift in upper management?

true, no warning at all that many often used and critical features are missing. reminds me of the debacle when MS switched skype to electron. pretty pictures and missing functionality.

Agreed.

A lot of breaking changes in v8 and I didn't see any release or warnings about these changes. Is there any documentation regarding these breaking changes?
After 10+ years of using 1Password this is the most disappointing release. It's totally disrupted my workflow, broken my keyboard shortcut and shocked me with other small and annoying issues.

Hi devananda:
It looks like one of my colleagues has gotten back to you recently. As for your LaunchBar screenshot, 1Password 8 doesn't offer the same integration functionality that 1Password 7 had, so you'll need to disable 1Password integration in LaunchBar's preferences to stop that dialog from appearing.
