Two Factor Authentication Methods

Hi Everyone,

I wondered if it's possible to set up 2FA using another method besides an authenticator app, i.e. SMS verification?

    Hey @hpearch, thanks for your question. We don't have an plans to add SMS-based 2FA as an option as it is typically seen as the least secure method.

    To elaborate, SMS does not provide any encryption or security features in transit and it can easily be phished. Additionally, this would require us having to store phone numbers for our users which is something we don't want to do. As part of our security model, we want to know as little as possible about our users: What we (don’t) know about you | 1Password.

    As an alternative method, after you set up two-factor authentication, if you have a security key, like YubiKey or Titan, you can use it as a second factor with your 1Password account.
