I had https://1password.community/discussion/125358/can-t-use-app-activation-links-anymore a little while back.
It worked great in 1Password 7 and I was using it, mostly for activation links to register apps.
Now I have to copy the link and paste in Safari to get it to trigger the automatic activation.
Safari prompts me every time to ask whether sending the data to the app is OK, If you are worried about malicious links, you could have something similar in 1Password 8.
