Hey everyone! đź‘‹ A new episode of 1Password's Random but Memorable podcast has dropped!
Episode summary
Love a hot take? 🔥 You’re in luck! We’re back with a special end-of-year treat: a rapid-fire round of cybersecurity hot takes guaranteed to start arguments in your group chats and hijack at least one Slack thread. 💬
The team weighs in on bold claims like “Passwords will finally die in 2026” and “AI will solve more cybersecurity problems than it causes next year.” Then we spice things up with hot takes from around 1Password — covering everything from CAPTCHAs (a punishment?) to VPNs (are they even doing anything?) to whether New Year’s security resolutions ever last past January. 🤔✨
We round out the episode with a listener question in #Ask1Password. Plus, it wouldn’t be a holiday episode without a bit of nonsense, so we’ve revived an old fan-favourite game from the Random but Memorable vault.
Which hot take did you agree with, and which one missed the mark? Let us know in the comments below!

First off a huge THANK YOU for bringing back "What the Phrase?" It was my favorite and most useful game of all time! The most memorable entry for me was "not my circus - not my monkeys" Which can be quite useful in certain situations!
On to hot takes:
Passwords will die in 2026? Not a chance! Although I did just have a website require me to get a passkey... no excuses, no way out! And I didn't really realize until this podcast that they eliminate the need for 2FA codes.Ai will solve more... nope nope nope! I agree with the hosts. I probably agree with them on Cyber insurance - but I don't know much about that.
I definitely concur that CAPTCHA is torture, and that magic links are not that convenient.
The download button can be a great thing - especially if you are downloading something super useful - dare I say like 1PW? I'd submit that clicking on links in email is way riskier.I can't imagine remote work without a VPN - and I wouldn't use a VPN that I didn't trust - so compared to using a open sketchy hotel wifi I'd say a VPN absolutely can enhance security. But would concede the point that they might not always do so.
It's a safe bet that New Years resolutions of all sorts are forgotten in January. For me getting 1PW7 out of my life might be a good one.
Thanks for the fun podcast & Happy New Year
