Unexpected Error signing in via modal, but not page

In an incognito window, clicking Sign in on the home page opens a Sign In modal. Filling Username and Password then clicking (Sign In) consistently results in the error, ⚠️ Unexpected Error Please...

I just reproduced the behaviour exactly as reported.
As a bonus, I reproduced it in a Firefox Private window.
