Hello Dave,
thx for getting back to this thread.
In my case I was able to solve my problem by checking the name of the App in the Applications folder.
I temporarily renamed 1Password.app to 1Password8.app in order to use Version 7 temporarily - and this caused the trouble with the browser extension in Safari. Now everything is working fine.

I'm sorry to hear that you're both having trouble opening 1Password for Safari. I know that this is cliche to suggest but can you restart your Macs and then try to open 1Password for Safari again? If that still doesn't work then, to help me better understand the situation, I'd like to ask you to take a screenshot of what you're seeing and attach it to your reply:
Make sure that nothing sensitive is visible in the screenshot. 🙂
