1Password 8.11.22 not available for Chrome and Firefox

1P_Dave

This appears to be an issue again in both Chrome and Firefox.

1Password for Safari is already at 8.11.22 with the main app. But 1P for Chrome and 1P for Firefox have lagged behind at 8.11.18 and 8.11.16 for weeks. What's up with this? Have those releases been pushed to their respective stores? Firefox is always far behind the others -- but Chrome is usually pretty fast.

It’s normal for version numbers to differ across platforms and browsers from time to time. Some releases are platform/browser specific for example, version 8.11.23 was only released for Windows and Firefox because the improvements applied only to those environments.

In the case of updates to 1Password for Firefox, additional Firefox-specific work was required, which resulted in a delay while our team worked with Mozilla to implement the changes and release the update.

Our team works to ship updates as quickly as possible across all supported platforms. As long as you’re running the latest version available for your specific platform or browser, there is no action needed on your part.

Please wait for users to accept a solution before prematurely closing down a thread.

While what you wrote seems sensible, this is the first time the browser extension and the app versions have diverged for as long as I can remember in all the years I've been using 1P. Thus, the confusion. Also, when you go to "About" in Settings in any of the browser extensions and follow the link their to the Release Notes, they all lead to the same link -- and there is no indication that one browser extension may not have the same set of releases as another.

1P_Dave I can understand the stock response that each browser's app store has its own schedule out of 1P's control. But it does seem strange that the Firefox extension missed several interim releases over almost 2 months. And now even more strangely, on Dec 16 the Firefox extension updated at last to 8.11.23, which none of Chrome, Safari, or *even the main app* have yet as of this writing! That last especially makes no sense -- why would you guys release a browser extension before the main app?

Each browser presents its own technical opportunities and challenges. As a result, releasing a new version of 1Password can sometimes take a bit more work for one browser than another. This means you might occasionally see a new version available for one browser, with the same version arriving on others later on.

To avoid a delay affecting everyone, we don’t hold back updates for all browsers when only one needs extra time. When that happens, the next release for the remaining browsers will include all of the updates and improvements from the earlier versions.

1Password version 8.11.22.27 is now available for Chrome and our team is actively working with our friends at Mozilla to release the next update to 1Password for Firefox. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

But 1P_Dave , it really seems like something has gone wrong on the Firefox release -- 8.11.16 is still the latest available. Even 8.11.18 was released over a month ago -- Firefox is indeed slower on its reviews typically, but not THIS slow.

Chrome just published 8.11.22 as well, but Firefox is STILL stuck way back on 8.11.16 released Oct 28. Something has obviously gone off the rails there.

FYI, Chrome just finally updated to 8.11.20, but Firefox is still stuck at 8.11.16. Given that even 8.11.18 was released a MONTH ago, it really seems something has gone awry with Firefox reviews of the 1P extension.

1P_Dave I disagree that this wasn't related to the original thread... I felt it was the exact same issue: long delays for the browser extensions to show up.

Now of course, since 8.10.22 extensions were just submitted yesterday -- I don't expect those to show up immediately. My point was that 8.11.18 and 8.11.20 for Firefox and 8.11.20 for Chrome never showed up in weeks. As of this writing, Chrome is still stuck at 8.11.18 (released on Nov 11) and Firefox is still stuck at 8.11.16 (released on Oct 28!). Clearly those extension releases got hung up for some reason.

  • Hello BLD! 👋

Thanks for the question! Since this involves new updates unrelated to the original thread, I’ve created a separate thread so we can keep everything organized and up to date.

New updates to 1Password in the browser were submitted to the various browser web stores yesterday. Before submitting, we needed to wrap up a few browser-specific refinements, which slightly extended the timeline for certain browsers. Because each store has its own submission and review process, updates may appear in some browsers sooner than others. Updates are currently under review in both the Chrome Web Store and the Firefox Browser Add-ons Store and they'll hopefully be available soon.
