Thank you for the continued feedback and for sticking with 1Password for so many years! We really appreciate having you with us and hearing your thoughts on how we can make 1Password better. I'm sorry that 1Password 8 hasn't clicked with you, hopefully as we continue to develop and polish 1Password 8 we'll be able to win you over in the future. 😊

If you have any feedback that you haven't yet shared in the other threads then please let me know and I'll be happy to pass it along to our developers.

Can you please explain to me what Agilebits expect to achieve with the Electron/Rust platform that they couldn't achieve with a native Swift/Swift UI application

If you're interested in learning more about the development process of 1Password 8 then I recommend reading the following blog article which provides a cool behind-the-scenes look: 1Password 8: The Story So Far

1P_Tommy I've been using 1Password since version 2 and I have indeed reverted to 1Password 7 – though for how long that is viable remains to be seen.

Of course 1Password 8 has many more releases to come, but what is to say that if it ever does manage to reach the productivity levels of version 7, you don't just replace that with an inferior product and repeat, and repeat?

By now you all must understand the flaws in 1Password 8 and why so much discussion on this forum is concluding that 1Password 7 was considerably more functional and stable, and that 1Password does not meet the standards for release. Can you please explain to me what Agilebits expect to achieve with the Electron/Rust platform that they couldn't achieve with a native Swift/Swift UI application, especially considering the substantial funds injected into the business by your investments partners?

1Password 8 has many more releases to come. Hopefully, we can improve on areas of concern for you. The original topic was about returning to 1Password 7. Is that what you are looking to do? If so, yes, it can certainly be done if you encounter something that is a show stopper in your opinion. Perhaps you'll give us another try like some of the diehard Mac users do after a couple of releases.

    1. Quit 1Password 8 and drag it to the trash. Do not use an app cleaner for this. Manually completing this step will keep your data safe. * Optional leave it here if you intend on trying 1Password 8 again. It can also be re downloaded later on.
    2. Double click 1Password 7.app.zip in your Applications folder to expand it. You can then remove the zip file from the Applications folder. * If you have removed 1Password 7 it can be downloaded here. Download 1Password for Mac
    3. Open Safari and disable 1Password for Safari and enable the 1Password extension (likely version 7.9.4)
    4. Drag 1Password for Safari to the trash. * Optional leave it here if you intend on trying 1Password 8 again. It can also be re downloaded.
    • Clarification. I was talking about how some Mac users do not update on a new release and wait until a x.1 or x.2 release to update.

1P_Dave I'm not sure that the heading for this makes any sense, as the context for my comment was the discussion I'd posted on and specifically the advice you were giving — it was tone-deaf.

It should be clear from these forums now that there are serious issues with 1Password 8 that go beyond minor niggles and are impacting users' productivity — have Agilebits forgotten that this IS foremost a productivity app and that is the basis for subscribing?

My point was: if someone has tried 1Password 8 and is so frustrated that they wish to revert to version 7, telling them that they would be better-off perservering with version 8 is not helpful — it's deluded, it's contemptable and it ignores the most valueable of feedback.

In terms of the problems I've identified with 1Password 8, they are detailed throughout this forum (just click on my profile) — though briefly, I NEED 1Password 8 to be '1Password 7' with ongoing compatability and incremental refinement — not an arbitary reimaging of WHAT YOU THINK I NEED.

lol asking for what issues we face when forum is full of statements that v8 is not usable.

  • Hello @abriden! 👋

I've split your comment away from the other thread since you've brought up different concerns from the original poster and I don't want to derail the conversation in that thread from the original poster's specific issues.

I'm sorry to hear that you're running into some issues with 1Password 8 for Mac. Can you tell me a little more about the specific functionality that you'd like to see in 1Password 8? I'd love to be able to forward your feedback to our developers so that we can make 1Password 8 for Mac even better.

I look forward to hearing from you. 😊

1P_Dave How can you still be advising users to stick with 1Password 8 when the functionality on which they've previously paid their subscriptions has been broken at best, or removed altogether. 1Password 8 is nowhere near being a satisfactory replacement for version 7 and should still be in beta.

As long as 1Password 7 remains compatible then in all good conscience the only honest advice you should be giving is that users do not 'upgrade' until you have fixed the bugs and broken functionality in version 8.

Be assured though, if you fail to deliver the security updates to version 7 that you're promising, then expect an exodus of users, including those that have until now evangelised and supported 1Password amongst their friends, families and colleagues.
