Indeed 1P_Dave. Accented letters are a nightmare in these fields.
I have a US QWERTY keyboard and I use the standard macOS shortcuts to type accented letters instead of the long press @AntonioM describes here.
With the shortcuts, you can't even type the accented letter at all.
Typically for é, I'd use the sequence "Alt-e e". In the same field, instead of getting the proper "é", you get "´e" and in that case, there is no way you can correct it. I'm glad @AntonioM mentioned the long press since I keep on forgetting about that option and at least with the long press you can correct the error.
