Android 1password face biometrics

On android 1password only asks to use fingerprint biometrics but I want to use face biometrics. Can you please add support for both?

Thanks for letting me know which device you're using. To provide some background: on most Android devices, face unlock is considered a "weak" biometric method because those devices lack IR or depth-sensing cameras, making them vulnerable to being fooled by photos or videos. While many devices include facial scanners, only those that support the Class 3 biometric framework and strong encryption can use face unlock with 1Password for Android.

I took a look and it looks like facial recognition on the Galaxy s25+ doesn't meet Class 3 biometric implementation properties but the fingerprint sensor does. This means that you won't be able to use facial recognition to unlock 1Password and you'll need to use the fingerprint sensor (or your account password) instead.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Hello musbachjohn! 👋

Thanks for the question! 1Password for Android already supports facial recognition:

Unlocking 1Password with your face or iris requires facial recognition or an iris scanner and Android 10 or later. Your Android device must also support a Class 3 biometric implementation: Biometric classes

What kind of Android device do you have? And can you unlock the Android device itself using facial recognition?

How do I add class 3 biometric support? In the Google password manager it let's me toggle between fingerprint and facial recognition but 1password only offers fingerprint. It's a samsung galaxy s25+ . It unlocks using facial recognition yes. Running android 15 and oneui 7.
