Big decision: 1P 8
Appreciating that everyone here is overworked and overtaxed by the new release (1P 8), deciding whether or not to stay with 1P is a big and important decision - for all us loyal users.
So may I as...

* while everyone in my family has been using Macs since... at least the 90's (though I started earlier), it looks like I'm the one in charge of reminding everyone to update OSs and apps. If I have to tell them to update anything by means of anything out of the Mac app store, they may keep running old, possibly insecure versions of their software
* simplicity. I don't have to be dealing with several update methods myself. I already do for Microsoft Office, some IDEs I use, and my 3d printer's software, but I expect those to be exceptions rather than "the way things work". I may even switch to update Microsoft Office from the Mac App Store since it's been there long enough now, and I'd certainly update my (our) Adobe subscription(s) if they were available there, too. For Microsoft Office, I've already moved part of my family to updating via Mac App Store for simplifying their lives.
* Whenever I recommend software to my friends and acquaintances, it's easier for me to point them to the Mac App Store than to point them to several different websites. Granted, there's no way to get blender or Maya from the Mac App Store, but then again, those some of the very few exceptions I am willing to handle.
* Trust. People just trust more a download from the Mac App Store than from a "random site", which is the case for anyone that doesn't know 1Password and will try it because I recommended it.
The short answer, if I only think of myself, is simplicity. Having the software in the Mac App Store makes it easy for me to keep it up to date and to make my family keep it up to date.
Note there may be other use cases requiring or benefiting from the MAS distribution approach, though.
If you're the only one using 1Password or everyone depending on you using it is comfortable enough with downloading / updating out of the MAS, you should be safe. (My other concerns regarding performance and resource usage have already been answered quite successfully).
