Big decision: 1P 8

First, I am happy to report back here that everything (download, install, ease of adding(/updating-upgrading?) the Safari (and FireFox) addons) went completely without the hint of a hitch.

That's so great to hear, Mark_Sealey. I didn't expect anything less, but it is always satisfying to hear when a plan comes together. 😃

My first impressions are 100% positive… looks clean; speedy; no sense of high CPU or memory usage.

One small question (unless anyone has had time to look at this request/question, please): is it possible in 8.7.0 to selectively collapse tags - I have a long and somewhat 'involved' tag hierarchy and it'd be useful to be able to choose the tag 'families' visible at any one time, please.

Our extensions team is a little backed up at the moment, but I'm sure they'll get back to you on the selective filling inquiry. As for collapsing tags... it isn't a thing in v8 yet, but I think it is a great idea and I'll be happy to advocate for it.
