Can't edit Secure Notes field, nor even see it, sometimes
Whoever created the Secure Notes template had things in mind that I haven't figured out. I've spent an hour looking for/at tutorials and reading comments on why Secure Notes has its current structure, and how to use it. I found nothing that addressed my questions. I imagine that my uses are fairly normal, but Secure Notes makes storing and organizing information harder for me, rather than easier.
I have a number of Secure Notes, which I created in the past, that have two or more added text fields. Some of these fields have two lines. I have not found a way, when I edit these fields, to add a third line of text. Placing the cursor in the field and hitting
That is, unless it is the first line of the field. When I create a new text field in a Secure Note, I see two lines, both with the word 'text' in them. However, Secure Notes seems to treat the first line differently from the second. If I hit
I notice that when I copy a text field, all the lines of text, including the first, are highlighted, but when I paste the text, the first line of text is not pasted. This, too, seems to indicate that the developers don't consider this first line to be data, but rather just an irrelevant label. If I use this first line for data, it is not irrelevant to me. If I don't use it, leaving the word 'text' alone, it is just a waste of space and a distraction.
The same behavior occurs when I create a New Section. If I don't fill in at least two lines of a new field within a new section, then when I save the Secure Note, the new Section and its fields will disappear. I have finally learned, and now remember this bug or feature, but it made me think I had lost important data several times in the past.
In a few cases, when I put too many characters in the first line of a text field, and add other text to the second line, I may not be able to see all the text in the first line on my iPhone. The text displayed is simply truncated. It doesn't wrap to the next line in the iPhone display. Turning the iPhone sideways does not change to a landscape display, so there is no way to see the additional text data on the first line. Going into edit mode on the iPhone does not display all of the text- it is still truncated. I can place my cursor in the text to edit it. But I don't know a way to move the cursor to the end of that line of the text field. The ghost of Steve Jobs still prevents us from having cursor arrows on the iPhone, which would be very useful in this case, and in many others. Curiously, I haven't been able to duplicate this behavior in a new Secure Note, only in one or two of my old ones.
I see only negative value in the labels such as text, URL, email, address, date, phone, and so on. The data that I place in the field is generally obvious as to its type, so I have no need of that label above my data. If the meaning of the data is not immediately obvious, as might be the case for 'password' or 'One-Time Password', then the label may actually decrease my security, if someone is able to see my screen for a few moments. In any case, would be rare that those two labels would be both necessary and sufficient.
When I create a new Secure Note, I see a space for text, which contains the words, 'Add any notes about this item here.' This is a useful space for text, without the unneeded label 'text'. I would like to be able to add more of these kinds of text fields, with minimal vertical space between each one, and the ability to change the order of these fields. Is that possible? I haven't found a way.
In this 'starting notes field', I can copy text selectively. I can select one or more words, or even a group of characters, and paste it elsewhere. In any other text field that I have added, I can only copy the entire text field, which doesn't copy the data in the first line, as noted above. It would be very useful to be able to select any amount of text from any text field, and copy it to the clipboard in the usual way.
