Difference between save login and manually adding a field

I would like to autofill an additional field in addition to username and password. I investigated the web page and got the name of the field and added it to the item. However, this way the field was not being autofilled. I then tried "save login" and that way it worked correctly (the field saved with save login had the same name that I had given manually). What is the difference between the two methods? Thank you

    Hi steph_giles, thanks to your suggestion I investigated the field in question a little better and realized that I had created a field of type text, while the field was of type url.

    Hey vidario,

    If the custom field had the same name as the one captured when you used the 'Save Login' option then technically it should fill. The only thing I can think that could be different is maybe the type of field but I'd be happy to investigate it for you if you send over a link to the page in question.
