How do you guys organize multiple items belonging to the same server?
Hello!
I'm setting up a home server, and there are several accounts or usernames that it has, not to mention other items that should be stored. For example:
- The root login
- The admin login for a Windows VM
- A username/password for a Samba share that will be used by other computers to do backups to the server
- The Windows license key used in that VM
- Windows security questions
I anticipate more over time. None of these are passwords that would be automatically entered, like for a website login. I've read that the 1Password philosophy is one username/password pair per 1Password item, but for this purpose that seems like a lot of disorganization. To me -- and maybe I'm thinking about this incorrectly -- it makes more sense to group together all passwords and items for this one server. I could just make a single Secure Note to store everything, but then all the passwords are just "out in the open" in the note, plus you lose the ability to quickly generate new passwords.
I realize there are multiple ways to structure things, so I'm curious how some of you organize this type of thing.
Thanks!
