4 years agoHow do you search a particular vault
In 1Password 7.x the search function seemed to work for what vault you were currently in. Now it seems to search all vaults. How can I just search 1 particular vault? Thank you.

I actually have just found out that i can do a Command-F while in a vault and I will able to search that vault only. This is a very acceptable solution to me, and I guess I was not aware it was there. Thank you.

Thank you for the feedback, I've passed it along to our product team so that they can see if we can improve this in the future. In the meantime, I hope that the Find tool helps. 🙂

Thank you for this information. Of course this does not help if I want to search for something outside the collection. The old way of searching was still tremendously better, but thank you for the procedure to at least help me out.

Thank you for the feedback. Once you're inside of a collection you can further constrain your search to a particular vault by using the Find tool:
- Open and unlock 1Password.
- Click Edit and then click Find.
- Enter a search term into the Find field.
- In the sidebar click on the vault that you'd like to constrain the search to.
Let me know if that helps. 🙂

Hi. Thank you for your comment. I have to respectfully say this is terrible. First off, I am such a strong advocate of 1Password for years and years, and originally brought it into our organization. I also never see us using any other alternative.
However, this new search is an utter mess. We have thousands of entries, and some of our vaults have hundreds and hundreds. With all our vaults, I guess I can honestly say I only use about 5 constantly a day. However even searching for an item constrained for those 5 vaults is still a mess.
Lets take a simple example and say you have 2 vaults only in a collection, and each simply has one entry called "root". Even doing a search on the collection of 2 vaults you will get back 2 entires of root. And certainly dont want to now how to preface the description for each user root as "root for applciation 1" "root for application 2", as that is point of it being in a vault, we already know "root" is for aplication 1 as its in the application 1 vault.
It is an absolute terrible design. We really need to be able to search directly in a single vault like we did last time. Collections will not solve this problem.

Hello @jeff2000! 👋
With 1Password 8 we've introduced a better way to allow you choose which vaults you see and search in called Collections. Collections allow you to specify which vaults and items you see so that you can exclude the vaults you don't need during your regular day. You can read more about Collections here: Use collections to create custom groups of vaults
I hope that helps. 🙂
