How to upgrade from Version Windows 8.10.80 to Version 7?
I want to upgrade to version 7 (and eventually to version 8.) I have seen some information, for example, for upgrading from version 4 to version 7, but not from version Windows 8.10.80 which is probably quite old.
I use a Windows-based computer and need the software app. This is for a family account.
Is it safe to download version 7 and will it automatically populate with all of my Windows 8.10.80 login data, etc.?
Thank you for confirming that you're currently using 1Password for Windows version 8.10.80. At the time of writing, this is the current version of 1Password.
Since you're already using the current version of 1Password 8 there's no need to do anything more. Let me know if I misunderstood.

You are undoubtedly correct about my version being Version 8, so apologies. (This would be a relief.)
However, if this is the case, there are features that are not available.
Most importantly, the Family Organizer is not able to change a Family Member to be a Family Organizer. Specifically, when the Family Organizer selects “People” and then selects a Family Member, there is no choice to change that member to a Family Organizer.
We used the instructions at the following URL to try to make this change:
https://support.1password.com/family-organizer/
I would appreciate your help with this matter.
One other, minor example: To ensure we are using Version 8, I looked at the release notes in our 1Password version. For the May 27, 2025 release 8.10.78, it showed, among other updates, the following:
“We’ve added a new setting, “Autofill username when creating a new login”, under Settings > General. When turned off, 1Password won’t autofill the username field for new items created manually in the app.”
I do not see this new setting. (I do see the username being populated when I create a new login, but that probably has been happening for a while.)
I assume I am using Version 8, as you indicate, but listed above are examples of two features that are not working or are not present. In particular I am concerned about the Family Organizer issue.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I'll respond below:
“We’ve added a new setting, “Autofill username when creating a new login”, under Settings > General. When turned off, 1Password won’t autofill the username field for new items created manually in the app.”
I'm sorry for the confusion. Since the release of this option, the setting has been renamed and you can find it by following these steps:
- Open and unlock 1Password for Windows.
- Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and click Settings.
- Click General.
- Toggle "Prefill username when creating a new login".
Let me know if you don't see that option in the desktop app.
Most importantly, the Family Organizer is not able to change a Family Member to be a Family Organizer. Specifically, when the Family Organizer selects “People” and then selects a Family Member, there is no choice to change that member to a Family Organizer.
This option isn't found in the desktop app. As documented in the link that you posted, you need to log in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com , in the browser, not the app. Follow these steps:
- Open your browser.
- Log in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com.
- Select People in the sidebar.
- Select the name of a family member to view their details.
- Select Family Organizer or Family Member to change their role.
Let me know if that doesn't work.-Dave

Thank you for reaching,
My computer is using Windows 11. I followed the instructions you furnished for finding the version number of 1Password that I am using. Per the "About" tab in 1Password, the version is:
1Password for Windows 8.10.80 (81080023)
I have a 1Pasword membership and I can see all of my items when I log into my 1Password account on 1Password.com
I also want to adjust my initial question because I am not sure that Version 7 is still available for download to a computer. (I do not think it is available for download to an iPhone any longer, so this may also be the case for a computer.) If this is true, then I would need to download version 8. So, is it safe to download version 8 and can I use a set of commands to have it safely populate all of my Windows 8.10.80 login data, etc.? I remain concerned given that I currently have a very early version of 1Password. Thanks.

Hello df99! 👋
Thank you for reaching out. Before I advise further, can you confirm which version of both Windows and 1Password you're currently using on your Windows PC:
Can you also tell me if you already have a 1Password membership and if you can see all of your items when you log in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com ?-Dave
