Multiple accounts in 1Password 7

I'm sorry to hear that you ran into issues when migrating an old standalone vault to your account but I'm happy that you were able to move your items to your personal account.

1Password 7 will unlock using the password of the first vault or account added to the app. If you'd like to change which password is used to unlock 1Password 7 then you'll need to remove both accounts from the app and then add the account whose account password you'd like to use to unlock 1Password 7 back to the app first. Then you can add the second account after that. Follow these steps:

1. Sign out of 1Password
2. Add a 1Password account to the app

From the Log into multiple accounts with one password I can see that with version 8 I'm supposed to enter the password of each individual account, but that doesn't seem to be the case for version 7?

You can unlock all accounts added to 1Password 8 at the same time by using the same account password for all of your accounts. You can find more information here: How to use multiple accounts
