Yes, this could be an issue. Did you also save the passkey to iOS?
The recovery code is verified as part of the creation process or the system would not be able to create one for you. That said, I can see why you would find this appealing. I've filed a feature request on your behalf. Also, please note the try again message is expected if you recently accessed 1Password from one of your devices.
