5 years agoNumber of items not appearing next to items
Hello 1Password, I just migrated from 1Password 7 to 8 Beta. So far it's great but I have a question. I am using the Windows 10 1Password app.
On my main page I always like seeing the number appearing next to the item, for example in the old system it would say ( this is just an example).
All items - 537
Logins - 499
Secure notes - 27
Documents - 11
Credit cards - 7
Is there a way for this to show? ( I would like to see all these again and the number of entries next to it).
Also, I am not ready to switch back to 1Password 7 yet as I am getting the feel of 1Password 8 Beta but is there a way to switch back if I decide to?

This is one example of how much AgileBits has changed recently. Instead of using a widely accepted solution - item counts next to the elements with an on/off option - they insist an making things differently. Even worse for a very short period of time 1PW8 nightlies had the widely accepted standard item count implementation.
Part of the problem might be that they try to have pixel perfect UI clones on all supported platforms instead using the strengths of each platform. - wagneroneDedicated Contributor
volts That was my use case for it I mentioned in a couple places, including this list of "lost features" - https://1password.community/discussion/comment/642795/#Comment_642795
I very much agree having those to quickly, visually scan the "state" of things was quite useful. Every other app in the world has them, right? If you don't like the "clutter", toggle it off in the preferences.
Based on the reluctance to acknowledge such or sincere consideration to re-instate this feature, I have to guess, like many of the "lost features", it's not easy to implement in the Electron code base v8 is built on.

This is a genuine & non-snarky question -
My use case for having item count next to items is this: When doing vault item management, visible item count for all vaults provides a small confirmation that I've made my intended changes.
(I do understand the arguments against putting item count next to items: visual clutter; keeping those counts updated.)
But I don't understand the "user story" for putting item count at the bottom of the list. What purpose does that serve? Who is that useful to?
It's dreadfully inconvenient when doing vault item management. Changes aren't visible immediately, only one count is visible at a time, and multiple clicks are required. It isn't possible to use the keyboard
Page DownorEndto scroll to the count - it's a weird bit of UI/UX, and it remains off-screen. So the mouse must be used. - robert1pSuper Contributor
I'd like to add my vote for the sidebar count. (As it is now, I open my Android app to quickly see the counts. But this is far from ideal, and I fear they might remove it from that app if they are looking for consistency.)

wagnerone - Well, that seems to be happening with a lot of tools, just like here, it seems that new features did have a cost of reduced UX quality.
I'm not sure how much of the community gets to the ears and eyes of the dev team.
Maybe it only works if there are enough "requesting people" or "complaints"For example, I never got any reply on suggestions to improve watchtower : https://1password.community/discussion/125252/watchtower-compromised-websites-or-better-compromised-data

1P_PeterG that does not make a lot of difference, because it is equally "hidden" as having the number at the bottom.
I don't really understand why it is such a problem to make it "visible at first sight"
If you can show it at the bottom of the list, why not move it to the top of the list....... - wagneroneDedicated Contributor
OLCE - there are a lot of features "removed" from/missing (or however one wants to describe it) in v8 when compared to v7.
It's super frustrating and getting the features that some of us think are quite important and we've come to rely on for years (incorporating into elaborate workflows, etc.) back seems like a lost cause.
It's vexing, but we are treading water for the time being with 1Password until we figure out what to do. :(

Hi OLCE, thanks for this feedback. 👋
I can understand why you wouldn't want to scroll to the bottom of a large list if you have lots of items. If you click the downward-pointing arrow in the top-right corner of your item list, it will say "< # > items sorted by
". Is that helpful for your use case? We're always interested in the details of how well the app design naturally aligns with your needs (or not), so we appreciate the chance to chat with you about it!

Hi,
The issue here is that it was present in version 7, and removed in version 8, why or what was the reason to remove it?The count is present at the bottom of the list of items, why not add it back to the categories and tags? Or if that is too difficult, instead of the bottom, show it on top of the list, that should not be all to complex for the devs. Just don't make us scroll down hundreds of entries to see the count.
You may not consider it a meaningful metric, but when you have several hundreds of items in categories and tagged, it is very relevant to those users. In my case, it (tagging) is part of my secops workflow.
Comparing it with the contacts app in IOS does not really make sense, they are completely different functionalities and the contact app does not have categories nor tags
But if you like to compare :
- talking about contacts apps ..... Google contacts (on most apps) has the count on top of the list, same for the Microsoft contacts panel = visible at first sight
- Lastpass (in most of their apps) has the count per group or category on top of the list in the main panel = visible at first sight - 1P_Ben
1Password Team
As a member of "Team Item Counts In the Sidebar" I will point out that I've yet to see anyone on this forum advocate for them not to be there. Except 1PW Devs. That's not to say I couldn't have missed other customers who expressed an opposing view. But if I did I certainly don't recall. And I'm all for an option to display or hide them. Just saying ....
It isn't super often that people take the time to register for a forum and post feedback indicating that a feature they don't care about isn't present. People tend to speak up when things aren't working the way they want, not vice versa. 😃 I also don't see anyone posting on Apple's forum in support of the fact that Contacts.app doesn't have item counts in the sidebar. I'm not sure that is a meaningful metric, to be honest.
is there any update as to what the response was from the dev team to our comment or request?
There are no plans to add item counts to the sidebar at this time, however we're happy to continue to gather feedback and try to make a case.
