1password.exe never closes

Hi there,

I've set my windows installation of 1Password to this:

But when I close 1Password after opening it once, these remain in the task manager:

What is going on here?

  • I am closing the main window with the x in the top corner while seeing this behaviour.

When I choose Close OR Quit: in both cases all 1password.exe processes terminate like they should.

I am used to the following behaviour in other applications:

If the users chooses systray integration, the window-x-button closes just the window.

If the users chooses no systray integration, the window-x-button closes the main process.

So now, first, thank you helping me to see that detail.

But, now I would like to know where's the difference in Close and Quit.

This whole behaviour looks a bit inconsistent:

Why can I choose to not have an systray integration but the processes remain?

Why can I choose Close or Quit but the both look like they are doing the same thing?

      Hi mr_onepwone!

I've tested this on my end, and Close behaves the same as clicking the X in the top corner - it closes the main window while the app continues running in the background. If Close is quitting the app entirely for you, that's definitely not the expected behaviour.

So that we can investigate further, could you reproduce the behaviour by clicking Close, then relaunch 1Password and generate a diagnostics report:

      Send a diagnostics report (Windows)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

  • Hi mr_onepwone!

Just to make sure I'm following correctly, how are you closing 1Password when this happens? For example, are you clicking the X in the top corner, choosing Close or Quit from the menu, or using a keyboard shortcut?

If you're using the X in the corner or the Close option, what you're seeing is the expected behaviour for your current settings. 1Password will stay running in the background, but won't appear as an icon in the system tray. To fully quit the app, you can use ⋮ > Quit or press "Ctrl + Q" with the window open and focused.

Let me know if this helps, or if you're seeing something different!
