Are you going to add print option back on to rev 8, if not, I need to start looking for another provider that doesn't think me smart enough to safeguard my own business.

2 years agoThank you for the details. I agree that a print feature is something that many folks would find useful and I've forwarded your comments to our Product team who will review them as they plan 1Password's future roadmap. I did want to respond to some of the points that you raised:
Creating pdf's and saving them in a flash drive inside our safe would ensure instant access to my passwords for my family. Yes, the emergency kit does that, but no good contingency plan should stop at Plan A.
The problem with storing an exported copy of your passwords on a flash drive is that you'll need to continually remember to update that exported copy. If you change the password for your email account or for your bank and forget, or don't have a chance, to update the exported copy then your family won't have access to that account. For example: if you update a password while on vacation and then find yourself in an emergency before you return home and can update the exported copy in your safe then the copy of your data that your family has access to won't be accurate. Leaving a copy of your Emergency Kit in a personal safe ensures that your family gets access to the correct version of your passwords and other items.
That being said, support for estate planning and emergency account recovery is definitely something that 1Password can do better.
Also, there's no kind way of saying this, but in case 1password went out of business
Even if 1Password the company completely disappeared tomorrow you'd still have access to your items on all devices where you're using the 1Password app. Your items are stored in an offline cache on each of your devices and you can use 1Password on a Mac, Windows, or Linux device to export your items even when the app is offline or if our servers are down: How to export your data from the 1Password app
I decided to bring my business elsewhere for any reasons (not feeling the need right now, but again thinking of contingencies) I would love to have access to my data in a non-proprietary format. The CSV export option is a good start, but it only saves some of the data.
Exporting to a 1PUX file would be the best option since it includes a complete and lossless copy of your data: About the 1Password Unencrypted Export format
Hopefully more services build support for importing 1PUX files, some already do. A PDF file wouldn't contain a complete copy of your items since it wouldn't include things like file attachments, Document items, and (in the future) your passkeys. Another issue is that other password managers wouldn't be able to import a PDF file like they can import a CSV or 1PUX file.
Countless variations of these arguments have been made in the past couple of months in this thread--I find them very persuading, and ignoring this kind of insights from loyal customers is how even established businesses start going south. ("We know better than our customers what they need")
Although it can sometimes look like feedback is being ignored when the team doesn't immediately act on a request I can assure you that that this isn't the case. Every single request, comment, and piece of feedback that we receive is forwarded to the Product team who carefully reviews that feedback and considers it as they're planning updates and new features to add to 1Password in the future.
A version of the print feature may return to the 1Password app in the future (I can't say whether it will or won't since I'm not on the Product team myself), but the feedback that we receive from folks may also inspire other improvements to 1Password such as better estate planning features, better recovery tools, and more robust import/export functionality.
Please continue to voice your feedback, the team hears and appreciates it. 🙂
