Quick Access is slow when searching

I use 1Password 8.10.32 on MacBook Pro with an M2 chip and 24GB of RAM running Sonaoma 14.5. I frequently use the shortcut keys (Shift+Command+Spacebar) to launch a quick search and then type the name of the credential I want to retrieve. Over time, this has become rather slow and I was thinking perhaps a reindex of a database would help speed things up.

Any other suggestions on how to get this moving again would be appreciated.

  • Hello trrobnett! 👋

I'm sorry that 1Password's Quick Access feature isn't working as quickly as it used to on your Mac. Can you tell me a little more about the behaviour that you're seeing? Is the Quick Access pop-up itself slow to appear when you press Shift-Command-Spacebar? Do letters appear slowly when you type them into Quick Access? Or is it the search results that appear slowly after typing in your search term?

Do you see the same issue when booting your Mac into Safe Mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support (CA)

There isn't a way to "reindex the local database" but you can reset the 1Password for Mac app using these steps:

    1. Make sure that you see all of your items when your sign into your 1Password account on 1Password.com (in the browser, not the app) and verify that you have a copy of your Emergency Kit. Don't proceed without this step.
    2. Reset the 1Password app and then add your account back to the app.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Dave,

Thanks for circling back on this. I have tried both suggested steps and I am sad to report that after the reset, things are running even slower now. :-(

A moment ago I did the Shift-Command-Spacebar hotkey, and it asked for my fingerprint. Then nothing for 5 seconds. So I tried the hotkey again, nothing. I clicked on the 1Password helper in the menu bar, still nothing. Then I went to launch the full client and as I launched the full client, the hotkey press finally popped up.

I'm sorry that the slowness continues even after a reset of the 1Password for Mac app. I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

    Please send the entire file.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

    Dave,

A quick update. After leaving 1Password open in the background while doing other tasks, I just went to use the hotkey feature again. It seemed notably faster than it was before doing the reset. Perhaps the database was busy doing some lazy loads of data from the password vault in 1Password's cloud.

I use 1Password dozens of times per day. If I notice further slowdowns, I will report them here, but hopefully things are running better after the reset. Cheers.

  • Sounds good, if the issue does return then let us know. 🙂

  • I have a similar issue - 1Password response time is very slow. Searching, as well as basic functions like opening the settings menu. MacOS 14.5, on a Silicon M2 Macbook Pro. I've rebooted, etc...
