Safari extension not functioning
Hi,
I've engaged support 3-4 times since v8 shipped to attempt to get the Safari 1Password plug-in to work as expected. Since v8 shipped I've relied on universal auto fill to use 1Password in Safari. I use it continually all day long every day. I am again seeking assistance to get the plug-in issue sorted out. I confess the issues of past failures has been myself running out of time to work through the lengthy back and forth in email to get it fixed. Ironically the Safari extension in iOS, which would seem to be more difficult to get working properly, works pretty well. I am composing this on my iPad, so I don't have specifics in front of me for the versions below, but can provide them later. I update my software at least once a day, so I have the latest 1Password versions of app and browser extensions at all times.
1Password Version: always latest beta
Extension Version: always latest
OS Version: macOS 15
Browser: Safari

Thanks for the ping. I'll answer your questions below:
If they plug-in is not integrated with the 1Password client, what exactly is it doing? Interacting with my local 1Password database directly and bypassing the client?
If app integration is turned off, the 1Password browser extension creates a connections with 1Password.com instead.
When I use this new setup, it defaults to wanting me to type in my password. I have to click the fingerprint icon to use biometrics. Is there a way to default to biometrics? If not, please accept this as a feature request.
At this stage, you cannot set biometrics as default in 1Password for Safari. I'll be happy to share your feedback with our product team.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi wagnerone / Mike,
I understand that it is time-consuming to go through that many profiles. Currently, our developers are working with Apple/Safari to improve the overall user experience. Working better with multiple Safari profiles is one of the things we are investigating. I'm sorry about the inconvenience and confusion it caused.
Meanwhile, instead of turning off the integration settings for each profile in Safari, you can turn off the switch in the 1Password desktop app. This way, 1Password for Safari web extension will work independently in all profiles. Here are the steps:
- Open & unlock 1Password 8 for Mac.
- Click the 1Password menu on the top-left corner beside the .
- Select Settings....
- Go to the "Browser" tab.
- Turn off the
"Connect with 1Password in your browser"
option.
Once you have done the above. You can unlock 1Password in each profile separately. However, you will need to enable the Touch ID feature for each profile as the option is not enabled by default.
Hope the above helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

1P_Evon Thanks for this suggestion. I did do this in my main Safari profile and it seems to be working like a dream. Amazing!
I then went to one of my other 40+ Safari profiles (I have to use different ones for different clients/accounts at work), and realize I have to do this for each and every profile, which isn't ideal.
Is there a way to programmatically do this or set this as the default across all profiles? If not, I can slog through them all to set this up.
Otherwise, any word on getting the 1Password Client integration working correctly?
If they plug-in is not integrated with the 1Password client, what exactly is it doing? Interacting with my local 1Password database directly and bypassing the client?
Thanks,

bdruth Yes, that's my experience from basically day one of version 8 release. Fortunately I've gotten by (and mostly prefer it, but it can't fill stuff like cc/address/etc. info) using Universal auto-fill, which works anywhere in the OS (Safari or otherwise). Without that I'd have been completely lost.

Came over to the community forums to see if anyone else was currently having a subpar experience with 1Password in Safari and found this thread. I don't have much to add other than "me too". I use 1Password with Safari and with Chrome and the experience with Safari is orders of magnitude worse than in Chrome, where it pretty much "just works".
I don't know if other folks are constantly shutting down their Mac, quitting Safari, etc. and when they go to use it, it's always "freshly started" - which is when things tend to work quite well, but beyond that, things fall apart quite quickly. The extension can't talk w/ 1Password (even though Settings shows a green bubble), it sometimes reports a problem and offers to "reload 1password" - but that rarely if ever works. The workarounds that work are
1) toggling "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app" off/on from the extension settings
2) restarting Safariunfortunately, since these situations arise many, many times a day, the utility of having 1Password integrated w/ autofill and what not, is completely gone since using these workarounds take vastly more time and effort than just using the 1Password desktop app directly ... or switching over to Chrome and losing the significant privacy protections that Safari offers.

Thank you for your reply. Does turning off app integration improve the behaviour? You can now conveniently unlock 1Password for Safari using Touch ID, eliminating the need for integration with the 1Password desktop app. Here are the steps:
- Open Safari.
- Right-click (ctrl + click) the 1Password icon in Safari's toolbar and select Settings.
- In the General section, turn off Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app.
After that, let's enable the Touch ID feature:
- Unlock 1Password for Safari.
- In the Security section of 1Password for Safari's settings page, enable the Unlock using Touch ID option.
- You can also modify the auto-lock settings.
Let me know how that goes.

In 1PW 8.10.60, I do not see that "Integrate this extension..." setting in the General section.
