Search results
in 1password 8 search for "vpn" does not find results related to "openvpn". In the ios version it does (not sure about 1password7 because I uninstalled it).
I lost a fair amount of time because of this, so I felt like it's useful to share.

Hi @spunkaroo, thanks for your contribution here.
We had to make some changes to the search in 1Password 8 to ensure that we're able to support folks who are using languages other than English (and this was important to do). However, we recognize that there are cases like what you've shared here where you're not getting the results you're looking for. We are indeed working on improvements in this area, and I'll look forward to sharing more when the time comes.
In the meantime, have you tried to the
findfeature? You can useopt + cmd + fto activate it, and I'd love to know if this yields better results for the search you mentioned. - Former Member
Found this thread because I also was having search issues. If I may pile on - the new search does not find items that aren't exact matches, or start the same way.
Example:
I was trying to find my login info for The Noun Project... i searched for "Noun" (as I always did in the past).
It did not show up. But if I typed in "TheNounProject", I go the result. It's too much to expect people to remember exactly how they entered a website into 1Password. Please change it back.

I'm just here to leave more feedback.....the new way to find or search, or whatever it's now called is NOT an improvement. It's taking me much longer to find the things I need now.

Hi @landao:
Thanks for your feedback on this! As Peter mentioned above, we're continuing to iterate on search, so we're continuing to collect feedback as we move forward.
@emde:
Search and find in 1Password operate slightly differently, so they're not quite a 1:1 replacement for each other.

1P_PeterG , that does work much better. However, why is there a "hidden" find feature? Seems very odd, the search bar should mimic this functionality.

After the udpate from 7x to 8, I notice that the whole search and results scheme is entirely different. It hampers my flow quite a bit.
For example:
To search for a series of email address passwords I would search for ".com:2096" and all the titles would show up, AND the typed text would stay in the search bar. Both of those things do not occur now. I have to press Command + Enter to search titles, and the entered text clears out. Very frustrating because I did not get what I was looking for AND I have to re-type the text. When I get the result I want, I rely on the text staying in the search bar so that I can change the ".com" and keep the ":2096" portion, but now I have to re-enter the search text entirely.Small complaint, I know, but a significant change to my workflow. Slows me right down. If you just popped the old search method back in place, the update would be good for me.

I can appreciate your perspective, @emde, and this is definitely something our development team is working on.
In the meantime, have you tried the
findfeature? You can call it up in the app by usingoption - command - f. If you give it a try, I'll be interested to know what you think of it!Thanks for letting us know where we can improve - we'll keep the updates coming, and again the search is an area of focus for us.

1P_PeterG , I just updated to 1Password 8 and discovered this issue. It's a HUGE problem. One of the best features with 1Password is the ability to find something fast. This makes it impossible to use. Hopefully this will be resolved ASAP!

Hi superandrew and norysang, thank you for letting us know about your experience here.
The search feature is an ongoing area of work for us here, so I have added your comments to our internal discussion around this. Thank you for letting us know where you find we have room to improve. I have passed the feedback on to our development team to inform their planning going forward. We appreciate your input on this!
