Stop 1Password from intercepting passkey QR code

On my Mac, I am trying to set up a Passkey for a site and have it stored in iCloud. The site pops up a QR code. When I scan it on my iPhone, 1Password intercepts the URI handler and tries to create the passkey. Is there a way to disable this behavior?

  • Hello cobaltjacket! 👋

Thanks for the question! Was there a particular reason why you wanted to store passkeys in iCloud Keychain and not 1Password? Passkeys saved in 1Password are protected using your account password and Secret Key, the same as your passwords and other items.

That being said, you can choose where you save a passkey on the iPhone and iPad if you have multiple options turned on for iOS AutoFill:

    1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Passwords > Password Options.
    3. Turn on AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys.
    4. Turn on the managers that you'd like to use for the saving and filling of both passkeys and passwords.

Next, when you scan a QR code for passkey creation you'll be asked if you want to use 1Password or iCloud Keychain to save the passkey.

Nevermind. I found the solution https://1password.community/discussion/142461/how-to-change-default-passkey-provider-back-to-system.
