Support for Zen browser
Hi!
There's this new browser called "Zen browser"
It's based on Firefox but the 1password extension doesn't work with the desktop app
1Password Version: Not Provided
Extension Version: Not Provided

Hello everyone!
Thank you all for the continued feedback! For security reasons, the 1Password desktop app will by default only connect to supported browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, Brave, Edge and Arc. If you're using a Mac then you can add Zen Browser as an additional browser to the desktop app:
- Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
- Click on 1Password next to the in the menu bar.
- Click Settings.
- Click Browser.
- Click Add Browser and choose your browser from the Applications folder.
We're not currently adding new supported browsers since that isn't a long-term and sustainable solution. The additional browsers feature is currently only available for the Mac. The team hopes to bring the custom browsers feature to 1Password on other platforms (like Windows) in the future.
For the time being, you may still be able to use 1Password in Zen Browser on your Windows PC but you'll need to unlock it separately from the desktop app using your account password.-Dave

Just decided to give Zen a try and stumbled on this issue. It's sad to know that there's a work around for Mac and none for Windows.

Yeah it's a real bummer. I switched to 1password in October but after seeing how this issue has been handled I've decided to cancel my subscription. I'll keep using it until my billing period is up but if they can't keep the experience consistent across platforms by then I'll move on.

I have the feeling 1Password is moving very slow to adding new features.

The response here is that adding specific browsers isn't a long-term solution. I will agree that it isn't a long-term solution. However, given that this feature request for parity between mac and windows has been open for 2 years, I think that the people here are not asking for adding Zen to be the long-term solution.
We are asking you to add Zen as a compatible browser as a short-term solution until you figure out how to get the trusted browser feature for windows to work.
Please. Give us a short-term solution. At the very least, give us an actual concrete timeline as to when windows will get the trusted browser feature. If you can't give us the latter, you really should give us the former.
Also, please remove the "solved" mark. The problem is not solved for windows.

Good Lord. Not a single real update on this. The fact that they are able to have an entire platform with a reduced feature set is ridiculous. 2 years and a lack of feature parity for a product people pay for.

1P_Davetrusted browser support Windows has been open for 2 YEARS. This is something that has not been addressed or communicated other than "We will go to the team". This is clearly not a priority. For basic accessibility reasons this feature not being on the worlds largest OS is frankly irresponsible. I understand that 1Password makes most of its money from corporate entities and you want to make it "Secure" but you already provide developer tools. Just make this a "Developer" option to bypass the security of known browsers and give us a custom browser list. Surely this will cater for the needs of those that actually need to make use of this.

Okay, the developers are clearly ignoring feedback here. Why don't you want to add Zen to the supported browsers list?
Why do you not like the Zen browser?- 1P_Blake

Hey BeholdThePowerOfNod! We’re definitely not ignoring feedback—we hear you!
The reason we haven’t added Zen Browser (or any other specific browser) is because manually supporting individual browsers isn’t a long-term solution. Instead, the team is working on a feature that will allow users to connect any browser they choose to 1Password. That way, everyone benefits, and we don’t have to add browsers one by one.

Hey 1P_Blake,
we are talking about a quick fix to make the community happy. It is really hard to understand that a company like 1Password is not capable of adding one browser entry to the list of trusted browsers in 7 months.
As someone else also mentioned, not having the third party browser feature on Windows is an issue that is open for over 2 years. There is a severe lack of communication here about the concrete steps that were taken so far and a reason why something that is available on other (much smaller) platforms like MacOS is not becoming available for over 2 years. I really hope you can take this to the team internally and improve not only the communication but also how issues are prioritized. Having to wait for years for browser support in a world where new browsers appear every few months and are also changed regularly is not a viable approach.

Made an account just so I can say I've been following this thread for the last 5 months just hoping I could get feature parity across my devices. Really sad to see this marked as a solution. Hope this doesn't mean the team is going to sweep this issue under the rug now that it has been "solved". I just want to be able to use the browser I want without sacrificing functionality in 1password.

Hey madethisforzenbrowser! Just to clarify, marking a response as a solution doesn’t mean the conversation is closed or that we’re ‘sweeping the issue under the rug' but rather it simply is intended to highlight the most up-to-date answer for anyone coming across the thread.
As mentioned in Dave's response above, the team hopes to bring the custom browser feature to Windows in the future. When this changes, we’ll update the Accepted Solution accordingly. We appreciate the feedback!

I was ecstatic when at glance I saw this issue as resolved. But this was a total let-down. I'm sure every single one in this thread was aware of the Mac-only feature of manually adding Zen browser. This is a Windows issue (Linux to some extent, but fortunately there is a workaround).
Can you please remove the "marked as solution" so we can still push for this feature to be implemented on Windows -- or at the very least add Zen Browser as a trusted browser?
It's surprising that Arc is on this list, seeing as it is closed to being abandoned. You already know that Zen is being actively maintained as open-source, based on Firefox (an already approved browser to your standards).

Hey pillowdiver! Marking a response as a solution doesn’t mean the issue is closed—it's just meant to highlight the most up-to-date answer for anyone coming across the thread.
We won’t be unmarking it, but if anything changes regarding Windows support for custom browsers, we’ll update the Accepted Solution accordingly. 🙂

This really isn't a solution for Windows users. Treating Zen like a second class browser when Arc is supported despite being functionally abandoned by The Browser Company is absurd.

1P_Davewe get that having you guys add individual browsers to the allow list is not a long-term solution, but we could really use something in the meantime. If you aren't aware, Arc has been abandoned by The Browser Company and Zen is an active community project with a similar experience. I am quite frustrated that Arc for Windows is not stable and want to switch to Zen, but I literally can't do it because 1Password is being stubborn about allowing the browser. I don't want to have to enter my password every time I use the extension. I use 1Password constantly due to having it both for work and personal use.
Adding Zen to the allow list would be very helpful to those of us who want to switch to Zen on Windows while you work on the feature enabling custom browsers on Windows. This does not seem like a massive ask that there clearly demand for. Zen is clearly a legitimate project. This feels like a strange hill to die on when there is not any indication that the custom browser feature is coming to Windows imminently. We're (mostly) happy paying customers here - can you just throw us a bone while you continue working on the real solution?

Marking a post as a solution to a thread doesn't mean that the issue/request itself is solved or closed. It's a way to highlight the most up-to-date answer for anyone who stumbles onto the thread in the future.
We won’t be unmarking this post since it provides an accurate and up-to-date explanation of where custom browser support is currently at: the team has released custom browser support for the Mac and hopes to release it for Windows in the future but for now you'll need to unlock 1Password in Zen Browser separately from the desktop app using your account password.
The discussion remains open and we'll continue to collect everyone's feedback going forward. As soon as we have more news to share, we'll update the Accepted Solution. 🙂-Dave

It's simply not a solution though. That's why people have been pushing back against your response. People have been asking for the trusted browser feature for Windows for two years now and there was been zero indication to the public that 1Password is even working on it. Why was Arc approved but Zen still isn't? Does Zen need to get VC funding and artificial hype by limiting downloads to invitees only before fizzling out and ending support a year after launch for 1Password to finally add support? This is one of the most active threads in the support forums, people are clearly passionate about wanting 1Password to properly support Zen, I don't understand why 1Password keeps refusing to actually do it.
- bitteOrcaNew Contributor
Once again, this is not a solution and marking it as a solution again is frankly insulting. This feature only exists on one of the three desktop platforms 1Password supports and without either 1Password adding support for Zen directly or adding the trusted browser feature to Windows and Linux it just plain isn't a solution for the original post.

I'm about to host a vaultwarden for this feature lol. I just want an unified password manager accross my system. Is that hard ?
