The new search function makes it worse
With the new search function, the program becomes much more difficult to use. And using additional keyboard shortcuts to open a real search function is 1. not intuitive and 2. requires additional effort that is absolutely not necessary.
Please make sure that there is a setting where you can define the old search function as default again.

You're in the right place, @valleyHemenway, and welcome! I can see how this would be a good alternative and will share it with the rest of the team, thanks for taking the time to explain this suggestion.

Am I wrong for the topic of this thread in my thoughts?
I think that the UX could be....
--You start typing into the search box and it DOESN'T auto-select any items, but displays the list as it does today.
--If you press ENTER then the system would do the same functionality of currently pressing Command and Enter
--If you arrow or cursor down to a result and press ENTER it would open that item directly.Seems like it would do the filtering that some people want while also leaving the direct opening that others want? Am I not on the right thread for this? Sorry, very new to the forums and posting for features. Is there an actual "voting" mechanism like on other software's forums that I have missed?

Hi folks, we have a further search-related update for you!
Substring search matching has now made it to the latest Production build of 1Password. To take advantage of this functionality, update to version 8.9.4 or newer, and you will be good to go.
Thanks as always for your feedback, and we hope you enjoy the update!

That's great news, now please implement the rest of viswiz's suggestions too :)

The support of substrings is a huge step into the right direction. Something that should have been there from the beginning.
Now please revert the search UI changes with its extra steps, i. e. use search as you type, show the results in the middle column instead of a dropdown window and most importantly show always all results instead of hiding most of them and requiring an extra shortcut. - andrew_l_1P

Hi @jhumphrey, @schneideris, @MEngelhardt, mburnett,
I'd like to share that substring searches recently made it from our nightly build into the most recent 1Password for Mac beta! π
If you'd like to check it out for yourself, you can switch your release channel in the 1Password preferences > Advanced > Release channel. Otherwise you can make sure automatic updates are turned on on the same page so you get these changes as soon as they're ready.
I appreciate everyone taking the time to express how important this is to them and sharing your feedback. Let me know what you think of the beta if you do try it out. ππ»

1P8 search is unusable for me as a developer; now just consider how it is for technologically inept users like our parents.

The search feature isn't providing expected results anymore. E.q. I search for items called "O365 account...". No results by entering "365" into the search line. Another try with the expression "O365" delivers the items. I expect that the search is able to find sub strings as well. If I have to type in the full text I don't need any search feature. For me the search feature it's not ready at the moment.

Add my voice to the discontent of this new Search and Find approach. Horrible and not at all intuitive. It worked wonderfully before and V8 has taken a huge step backwards.
