Thanks for the question! Universal Autofill is a feature in 1Password 8 that allows you to fill your login credentials into Mac apps, you can read more about it here: Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac
Before Universal Autofill was released, with the launch of 1Password 8, you would have had to copy and paste your credentials from 1Password into Mac apps since filling was only available for websites in the browser using the 1Password browser extension.
Applications on the Mac generally don't require username and passwords, right?
Any app that uses an account (such as Zoom, Microsoft Office, and more) will require that you login to the app. That's where Universal Autofill comes in to make that login process as easy as pressing Command-Backslash on your keyboard. 🙂
