Use Hello in Windows with Parallels

I am using Windows 11 under Parallels on a M1 MacBook Pro. I have installed 1Password 8 for Windows and the Edge extension. I would like to enable unlocking 1Password with Hello but that setting is grayed out. How can I enable Hello?

1Password Version: 8.10.6
Extension Version: 2.10.0
OS Version: 12.6.5
Browser:_ Edge

The newest version of Parallels, Parallels 19, supports Touch ID with Windows Hello. Here's the Parallels KB article. https://kb.parallels.com/129870

I've tried it, and I haven't been blown away. I think there are some things with using a Microsoft account (and password), the PIN login option etc. I haven't been able to get it to use Touch ID successfully. I'll often get a prompt to enter my password (Microsoft account password), which I have to go look up.

When I have some free time, or when Parallels releases a point release, I'll try it again. I love the idea. At the moment, though, for me, it fails the Apple "it just works" test. šŸ˜‰

hey @volcano2, i have the same setup and i'm on the same situation. apart from GreyM1P 's recommendation, to be able to use Biometrics, it appears we need external devices:

    • apparently it needs IR camera and Macbook doesn't have it: https://forum.parallels.com/threads/windows-arm64-seems-to-boot-up.351859/page-7#post-883042

    Hey there @volcano2

Although you won't be able to use your MacBook Pro's Touch ID sensor for Windows Hello, you can use a PIN instead. For some context, I operate a whole zoo of VMs, and this is the method I use too.

In the Settings app in Windows, click the Accounts tab, then "Sign-in options", then "PIN (Windows Hello)" and you can set one up there.

When that's done, restart the VM (just for good measure) and make sure you can sign in to Windows with that PIN. Then, you can turn on Windows Hello on the Security tab of 1Password's Settings.

Let me know how you get on or if you need any help. :)
