3 years agoWhy did the sidebar item count dissapear with V8?
Just downloaded V8 for Mac and noticed that the sidebar item count for each category is no longer available. It should be an option in the Settings Appearance area, just like tags is.

Please bring it back to the sidebar. Why we need to reinvent the wheel. The count will give me an overview of various passwords in their respective categories/tags. As @love2kruz mentioned, this will prompt me to review whatever item that needs updating/deleting.
I have also noticed that the iOS & Android apps still have the items count. Please don't take it away in your next update. Please.

I have downgraded back to 1PW7 for the time being. I use the count for more than total items. I also use it to help in all the sections (watchtower, tags, etc.). If I have a large number in one of the Tag folders I'll review them and if necessary create a new Tag to get finer detail over where I store tags for easier access, especially if I can't remember which website I need to log in to. I have 8 different Disney logins for each Disney sites I have, Disney Annual Pass holder, Disney+, etc. So I have tags for entertainment, vacation and streaming services. Having specific categories with counts just provides a more granular look at my data.

Thank you for the responses! Can you tell me a little more about how you used the item counts in the sidebar? I would love to learn more about how you used this feature so that I can pass along your feedback to our developers.
@love2kruz
You mentioned that you used the item counts to make sure that your devices stayed synced. I know that this was an issue with older sync methods however 1Password.com accounts use a different system that ensures that all of your devices are instantly updated when a change is made to any of your items. Have you seen items created on one device not appearing on another device since updating to 1Password 8?
I look forward to hearing from you. 😊

+1 on this. What AB considered as 'too cluttered' was a professional user interface in v7. Everyone even non-tech expert users understood it. v8 is just a sad joke now.
An anecdote that properly shows the competence of v8.
Back in the day our company hired a graphic designer to create designs for our web projects. Unknown to developers that person was a print graphic designer. The designs created were stylish but it was just unnecessarily complicated to implement that design. Not even to say that person didn understand mobile vs desktop etc..
This is how v8 feels. Designed by someone without knowledge for user interfaces and usability. Its shiny and cool but not usable. - PensFan87New Contributor
I agree - give power to your users by adding this as a Preference option. Best of all worlds.

How about making it an option to display under appearance?

Even after trying the new approach for item counts for months it still feels wrong. Please bring back the item count to where it was in all previous versions, i. e. next to item it belongs to. Maybe with an option to show/hide it.

Hi @love2kruz, thanks for the feedback.
1Password 8 was designed from the ground up, and so provided many opportunities for us to consider (and re-consider) how various aspects of the app work. One of those elements was the sidebar - which some felt may have gotten a bit too cluttered with competing elements in 1Password 7. However, we respect that you have good reasons for your opinion on where the item count should be, and we are taking customer feedback into account going forward. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Both of your recommendations requires extra effort on my part. I, either, have to scroll through 600+ items to get to the bottom or click the sort button to get the data I use to ensure all of my apps are in sync. It used to be listed by default, and now you've added extra work. It worked in version 7 why not have it in version 8? New versions are supposed to make using the app easier, not add steps.

Hey @love2kruz:
Thanks for reaching out! As it currently stands, you can view the item count in a list either by scrolling to the very bottom, or by choosing the sort options button:
With that said, I can definitely see how item counts in the sidebar would be useful, so I've shared your thoughts internally.
