Why does 1Password keep asking me to save my passwords?

It maybe me but it seems that often after using command-\ to enter a login id and password details, usually if I've had to unlock 1Password, and after it has signed me in, it seems to then ask me to unlock 1Password to Save Login. I am seeing this pop-up.

Does anyone else see this, might it be something I'm not doing correctly?

Thank you for your help.

  • Hello iwaddo! 👋

I'm sorry that you're seeing an unexpected prompt to save a login after filling it. It sounds like you're using the desktop app's Universal Autofill feature to fill your login while 1Password in the browser (the browser extension) is locked and unable to detect that you already have the login saved in 1Password.

The desktop app and the browser extension should lock and unlock at the same time. It sounds like the communication between the desktop app and the browser extension isn't working. Try this:

    1. Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
    2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click Browser.
    5. Make sure that "Connect with 1Password in the browser" is on.

    Then in the browser:

    1. Open your browser.
    2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
    3. Make sure that "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app" is on.

If that still doesn't work then do you see a green dot in the browser settings page? Or a different coloured dot and an error message? Can you also confirm which browser you're using?

      Hi,

Yes, with help from the support team I found that the 'Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app' setting had been turned off. This is not something I will have changed.

I'm wondering if there needs to be a way to save and reload settings? I cannot be expected to even think that my settings might have changed by themselves and even if I did I will certainly not remember what they were set to.

One of my 'family' users is 85. It was important they stopped using the same password everywhere and enjoy the added security now we've changed all the important passwords to be secure. They need the app to work consistently and be reliable. They are also reporting similar issues so I'm expecting his settings have also changed. I need to check.

I'm using Safari on a Mac, they using Chrome on Windows 10 so it feels like the common denominator is 1Password but we need to see if it happens again.

I'm wondering if the target users are more techy and more needs to be thought about for normal users like myself and my elderly relative. I've never had a problem with settings changing on any other app previously.

You mention that it sounds like I'm using Universal Login, I am. If I do not use this what else should I be doing?

      Thank you for your support.
