Why is app icon different in Linux?

In my case, the 1password icon had been replaced by the theme I was using. Fixing it was as simple as locating where the theme stored desktop icons and replacing them with the stock 1password ones.

Thanks - that helps. I also found instructions via google to replace just the 1Password icon without having to change the entire theme (which I otherwise quite like)

Anyway, glad it wasn't a 1Password thing as it seems rather silly to change the icon for just one platform.

I tested this on a Linux Mint VM and encountered that same icon you're seeing. After some further investigation, this appears to be due to Linux Mint Icon themes overriding application icons with their own versions.

I noticed that the Mint-Y theme appears to be using a default "password" icon for 1Password rather than the actual app icon. Changing to a different icon theme (such as Mint-X or breeze) resolves things:
