I use 1password and have enabled google's "advanced protection" (https://landing.google.com/intl/en_in/advancedprotection/). I recently attempted to restore my android phone from backup and found it impossible to logon to google without temporarily disabling advanced protection. Note that the restore logon takes place before I have 1password on the device. Google insisted that I use my passkeys which were not on the device. It also had an option to scan a QR code from another device which had the passcode, but I don't know of a way to scan this QR code from 1password. Has 1password thought of supporting this somehow, or is temporarily disabling the advanced protection the preferred solution?13Views0likes0CommentsCopying and Pasting Icons
I first commented on the subject of loosing the ability to copy and past icons in version 8, some four years ago. Since then I have mislaid my community login and password and so have reenrolled as a new user. I administer a family account. We have collectively, 7 x MAC desktops, 2 x Windows desktops, 7 x iPhones, 8 x iPads. The ability to create entries in 1Password with identical icons is important to all users. For those, less technically confident, the icon provides a secure and confident way to recognise entries - many within a shared vault. Individuals, when automatically offered the upgrade in their 1password app, thought, as instructed by me over many years, to keep their apps up to date for security reasons. Having upgrade their iPhones, iPads etc to version 8, the very first calls and emails to me, concerned the loss of the ability to copy and paste icons. Many thought it was a misunderstanding of the new version 8 - it wasn't. We still appear, not to have addressed this issue? As a consequence I had to uninstall everyones version 8 and reinstall versions 7. As I type this on a MAC desktop, I am the only user running version 8 on any device!! On my iPhone, I am running both versions, just so that I can utilise the 'copy and paste icon' facility. Although you have provide in version 8 a 'dropdown' below the icon (in edit mode) providing 'choose a photo' and 'choose a file' - neither of these provide a suitable resolution to version 7 'copy paste'. We use 1password in our family for everything, having spent years drumming into everyone the need to be secure and adhere to good password practices. I feel everyone is missing out on he update of version 8 JUST because of a 'copy and paste' issue. Please can you address this ASAP ? I'm sure that many have similar views even though the numbers may not reveal themselves in your community forum - Out of our family, I am the only community user, but they all have the same issue - their may well represent many other users who do not visit the community forum. Greetings all, I'm having trouble with my Bank of America app, in that, 1Password won't auto load into it, except every once and a while. ( Every once and while, password will load, after a failed attempt to auto load the username.) And if I try to copy and paste from 1Password, I can copy either the username or the password, but after pasting one of those, when I go back to copy and paste the remaining one, the original one I've pasted is gone. What's frustrating is, that at least once in the past, both the username and password auto loaded as expected. I'm using an Android S23 FE. Thanks.24Views0likes3CommentsNewbie question re passwords
So I definitely get it re good passwords... But I am kind of skeptical about the need for super strong passwords for every site, such as yahoo mail, a discussion forum, etc... A And in the past I have used the same password for all such "unimportant" sites, one that I know by heart; my logic being that I really don't care that much if someone reads what I write on a forum or such where I really don't care if someone breaks in to it. I find it unsettling to have all my passwords consist of letters and/or words that mean nothing to me, that I could never guess. What if I get hit by a car, lose my memory, at the hospital and forget my MAIN password and don't have access to my 1password, and need to withdraw $5000 from my bank from the emergency room before they'll admit me? And yeah I know you can say you forgot it and have it sent by email. BUT I have had that issue recently with Amazon and using various devices and they have blocked me out of my account because I couldn't even remember which of various email aliases I used, for them to send me the password! Advice? Comments? Does anyone else have a password manager BUT only use it for remembering which one of, say, 8 passwords, you have used? I know everyone says that's bad but ... makes sense to me. By the way, in 30 years of using the net I've never had any of my accounts broken into!30Views0likes3CommentsQ re not filling passwords in private tabs
I am not sure if I want to use 1password in private tabs or not. The explanation that if I do, websites will be able to see my browsing history is something I am not sure about. Is this a Security issue or just a privacy issue? What is the real world danger of having 1password work in private tabs? I'm looking for examples of what bad things could happen. I prefer to use private tabs sometimes simply so my browser does not record them, but I use Brave which is very privacy oriented, and also I use Nord VPN so I am wondering if it is really important for me not to use 1password in private tabs on Brave...? I have brave set to clear cache and history on closing as well... So a) do I really need to use Private tabs, and b) do I really need to not use 1password when I do? Thanks for enlightening me on this. I'd like to use 1password on private tabs but do not want to be less secure.31Views0likes3CommentsHow do you guys organize multiple items belonging to the same server?
Hello! I'm setting up a home server, and there are several accounts or usernames that it has, not to mention other items that should be stored. For example: The root login The admin login for a Windows VM A username/password for a Samba share that will be used by other computers to do backups to the server The Windows license key used in that VM Windows security questions I anticipate more over time. None of these are passwords that would be automatically entered, like for a website login. I've read that the 1Password philosophy is one username/password pair per 1Password item, but for this purpose that seems like a lot of disorganization. To me -- and maybe I'm thinking about this incorrectly -- it makes more sense to group together all passwords and items for this one server. I could just make a single Secure Note to store everything, but then all the passwords are just "out in the open" in the note, plus you lose the ability to quickly generate new passwords. I realize there are multiple ways to structure things, so I'm curious how some of you organize this type of thing. Thanks!9Views0likes0CommentsThoughts on passkeys and passwords
I've given up on Passkeys. Security is only as good as the weakest link. Since nobody allows me to create a passkey and then disable my password, the Passkey doesn't really provide the phishing-proof protection it promises, as currently implemented. This is as bad as websites that let you set up a Yubikey as a 2FA method, but won't let you disable SMS. I've deleted all my Passkeys and set up 2FA on any site that allows it. I'll revisit passkeys on any site that allows me to disable my password and only use a Passkey.18Views0likes0CommentsTruncated Password Suggestions Prevent Differentiation
Many common naming conventions only differentiate the name towards the tail, so if truncated in a dropdown, all names appear the same. This is what occurs with the 1Password suggestion dropdown, as shown following: If the full card name must be truncated, it should be done in the middle, like macOS Finder does for long filenames. The aforementioned drop down would then appear as, for example: AICIS...Business Services-A AICIS...Business Services-B A hover over with the full card name would be another, or complementary, improvement.3Views0likes0Commentsusing masked email as userid
i'm new to using masked email. since many sites want you to use an email address as your userid it would be great if 1P easily allowed you to generate a mask email automatically when autofilling the userid field rather than the userid in your default profile. i haven't found a doc or protocol to speed this up. while i'm not happy with jumping through some added steps its still better than using apple's hide my email which i have been trying to use since. maybe there is a document tat i can try out. even if that calls for manually adding a login to 1p and taking time to add an email to the id using masked email and cut/past the address into the userid field and then using autofill to populate the userid/password fields as part of an account creation dialog. tia, Andy15Views0likes0Comments
