⌘+\ doesn't work on most websites with 1Password 8 for Mac & Safari
The classic 1Password hotkey on macOS, command + backslash, mostly no longer works for me in 1Password 8 in Safari. I have it enabled (see screenshot).
Depending on the website, ⌘+\ does the following:
- Fills username/password as expected
- Prompts 1Password 8 to unlock, but not 1Password Safari Extension
- In this case, I can click the 1Password toolbar icon in Safari, and the extension appears to discover 1Password 8 is unlocked, and then the hotkey works
- 1password.community login page is an example of this for me
- Doesn't work at all, e.g., ⌘+\ is completely inert
I don't have a scientific survey of how often it doesn't work vs does work, but it seems like most of the time it does not work. It also seems like whether it does or does not work is very consistent per website.
1Password Version: 8.7.0 (build 80700009)
Extension Version: 2.3.1
OS Version: macOS 12.3 (21E230)

Given that v8 does not work properly with Safari, which I imagine a sizeable proportion of your users use, why did you foist this buggy substandard app on us? 1Password of the olden days would never have had the gall to do this. Frankly, shame on you.

⌘ + \ doesn't work on a Japanese Keyboard. Even if the ¥ mark is substituted to a \
(Japanese – Romaji ⟶ Input Sources ⟶ "¥" key generates \ (Baclslash))Expected behavior, without the substitution:
⌘ + ⌥ + ¥ should be equivalent to ⌘ + \If ¥ is substituted to \
⌘ + ¥ should be equivalent to ⌘ + \I wanted to override to shortcut to ⌘ + _ (since the placement is very convenient on the Japanese keyboard), but the preference panel wouldn't let me do that either. (this should be the default if the Japanese keyboard is detected)

I've uninstalled the beta, and installed the official release version, and universal autofill is great. So far it's working perfectly. Thanks!

Hi Dayton_ag,
this sounds like a temporary disruption to browser integration itself - where the 1Password extension hasn't connected to the desktop app.
Yes, I agree. Is this a known issue or is there a workaround? This happens very frequently for me.
With regards to hitting the ⌘ + \ shortcut and nothing happening, is it possible this is occurring on websites where you have more than one matching item?
Not consistently enough to suggest this is the problem. One example that never fills for me is USAA.com, and I only have one login item for that. But even if in cases where there're two or more matches, I'm pretty sure past behavior was for ⌘+\ to show me a choice, rather than do nothing. Do I remember correctly?
Cheers,

Hey y'all, thanks so much for sharing this with us! Based on what you're describing, I think you're bumping into two different scenarios - in the instances where the desktop app is unlocked but 1Password in Safari is not unlocked, this sounds like a temporary disruption to browser integration itself - where the 1Password extension hasn't connected to the desktop app.
With regards to hitting the
⌘ + \
shortcut and nothing happening, is it possible this is occurring on websites where you have more than one matching item? If there are two or more items suggested for AutoFill on a particular website (say you have two gmail accounts, and are trying to sign in at Gmail.com), 1Password won't fill either entry in and instead leaves the decision of which item to fill up to the user. Is it possible that's the behavior you're running into? - Former Member
FWIW I've seen this behavior as well.

Sorry for the slow reply. As of right now I'm on build
80700041
, and nothing seems particularly different than before. To be clear, it's not just when 1Password is locked. Sometimes 1Password (app and also safari extension) are unlocked but ⌘ + \ don't do anything. Other times the app is unlocked but the safari extension doesn't realize it without clicking the button.
