1P shortcut conflict with default Google Doc shortcut in Safari

Thanks Dave. I've gone straight to 1Password contact form. The agent acknowledged the issue without hinting any timetable concerning a release in which it would be fixed. It's hard to tell exactly what the responding agent thought, but it seems like the very idea of an app developer repurposing a system-wide keystroke combination for their browser extension isn't a problem so long as there's a means of changing it within the browser, which Safari doesn't allow. My thought is just to rerelease it either with keystrokes that don't conflict with most browser-based text editing (Docs, Word for Web, et al.) or just disable the feature altogether, since it's entirely redundant. There's already a keystroke combo with which a Mac user can invoke 1P from anywhere in the GUI. The feature is covered. Nobody needs an extra one just for the browser. I don't know whether the message penetrated. Time will tell.

Has the Safari extension been updated? I am still experiencing the same issue when typing text and giving what's supposed to be a global Mac command for strikethrough text that the extension has hijacked. As I mentioned earlier, this issue goes back at least to September 2023. Is the development team simply deprioritizing this in perpetuity? Dave_1P, are you an employee of 1Password or in some official position to be able to get this prioritized by the developers?

I definitely understand the disruption being caused by the situation and I've made sure to communicate your feedback to the team that owns 1Password in the browser's shortcuts. Hopefully the situation is improved in the future.

The point is that 1P had no business approrpriating this command anywhere in the Mac environment, and particularly in a browser, for reasons I’d already mentioned.

So, yes, I suppose that I could reposses this command in other browsers. But I would much prefer that there not be this redundant keyboard shortcut in the browser at all. Safari is my browser of choice these days, and I see no good reason to switch to another browser just because 1P irresponsibly hijacked an important, universal keyboard shortcut for its own use. Rather, I believe the onus is on the developers to correct their mistake. Hard assed of me? Sure, I guess so. But also a thoroughly reasonable expectation.

Thank you for the feedback, I've shared it with the team internally.

If you're using Firefox or a Chromium browser then you can customize the shortcut by right-clicking the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and choosing Settings, then scrolling down to the Shortcuts section.

Safari doesn't allow users to customize shortcuts for browser extensions and our development team has filed an issue with Apple to have this changed so that you can choose the best shortcut for your workflow.

Chiming in: this matter, which was first brought up in September 2023 in this thread, remains unresolved in my up-to-date version of 1Password. According to earlier posts, this was raised with the development team that same month and again in March this year. What needs to happen to get this addressed without further delay?

Mac & PC users expect ⇧⌘X (or its PC analog) to be universal for text strikeout; when so much text editing happens with web-based editors (Docs, Word for Web, webmail), hijacking that command for a password management program is an instance of poor judgement. That the issue has remained unaddressed to now is an instance of poor management, particularly when the command is entirely redundant in 1Password. Within Mac OS, ⇧⌘space already brings up the same function from anywhere in the Mac OS environment. Further, it remains impossible to change this setting within 1Password for Safari: there is no keyboard shortcuts option in this version of the app.

Poor choices happen all the time in software development. These are all forgivable when the provider listens to its users and makes necessary changes. It's beyond irksome when it seems like the client is being ignored, now all these months later.

I did not indicate (updating) would help the given trouble you described. It was merely an observation that you were behind on updates.

I'm not sure what you mean. It looks like this is mentioned. Did I miss something? It's possible. Please let me know.

Updating MacOS doesn't solve the problem.

How many times will you file this feature request before someone will be willing to fix it. I'm sure your team has a huge backlog, but given the number of threads I've read on this issue, it seems like this should get prioritized.

Also, you documentation certainly has a typo. You should at the very least fix that.
